Comics, Books, and Snowboarding

My partner is Nkay23, and I learned a lot from him that I didn’t know from his avatar. His avatar was three horizontal stripes being green, white, and red and there were three circles that were blue, red and green in the middle of the white stripe. The three stripes really caught my attention because they were put in the exact order that the Italian flag is, so it made me think that maybe Nkay23’s avatar had something to do with Italy. But the three circles also caught my attention because when I looked at them I thought that the three colors in the circles could be the three starting Pokemon Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle. But I would later learn that my assumptions were wrong.

Nkay23’s process for creating his avatar came from his love of his favorite books, colors, and activities. So when it came to the interview I was very excited to learn more about him and his avatar. The first part I asked him was the reasoning for the three stripes. The green stripe represents comics and Nkay23 said that “It symbolizes the color of a comic app I use.” Then he explained how the white stripe symbolized snowboarding and his love for snowboarding during the winter. The last stripe was the red one and this symbolizes his favorite color. Then we talked about his reasoning for the three circles. The first circle was the green one and this symbolized books, he chose this because it symbolized all the books he read. The second circle was a red circle and this also symbolized his favorite color so he had to put it in twice. The last circle was the blue circle and this symbolized the color of his snowboard. Nkay23 said “My snowboard is blue so the blue circle shows my love for my snowboard.”

After learning about what each stripe, color, and circle symbolized I was surprised to learn how the green, red, and white stripes had to do with nothing about Italy. I was also surprised how each stripe and circle had their own meaning instead of having one big meaning together. Next we compared and contrasted our ideas and process of creating our avatars. We both chose stuff that we liked or that was special to us. Most of our items were things that we grew up with so they meant a lot to us. Nkay23’s way of thinking to make his avatar was more focused on symbolizing through colors. My way of symbolizing was through actual shapes and representations of parts of my items I chose that show who I am. For example Nkay23 used blue to symbolize his snowboard color while I used a genie lamp to represent Aladdin which is my favorite movie. Then I ended this interview by asking Nkay23 some questions.

The first question I asked was “where do you like to snowboard?” His response was “I like to go to Black Mountain and Titcomb especially because of the four parts to the side of the mountain.” The next question I asked was “What is your favorite book?” His reply was “Solo Leveling, it has a good story build up and character development throughout the book.” The last question I asked was “What kind of comics do you read?” Nkay23 said that “I read more manga and webcomics, and that my favorite would probably be One Punch Man.” I learned a lot more than I knew about Nkay23 from this interview and from his avatar and I think that everyone should express who they are to each other more often.
