Rain

Throughout my history of playing High School sports Middle School sports as well as Little League Sports I have always enjoyed practices in the rain. As I got to high school though it became more apparent to me that the people surrounding me did not enjoy these rain practices quite as much. For example M S who is on my football team and one of my friends absolutely hates practices in the rain. During football season he says they’re a waste of time and a waste of energy but I love them. I love going outside into the rain and doing Air Raids in the mud. As most people don’t know airaids are where you line up at one end of the football field and the coach will yell flood in which you get up and Sprint if he yells fire you get on the ground and start rolling and if he yells air raid you start Army crawling on the ground this is done the full length of the field multiple times as conditioning most find it unfun and quite a terrible time whereas I enjoy it very much. During my junior year of high school during the fall when football was going on we had our first football practice in the rain. To celebrate this practice in the rain I wore Jorts.

They were homemade Jorts. I just took an old pair of jeans that still fit but had a lot of holes in them and just cut off the pant legs. When I showed up to practice, the look on the coach’s face said it all. Coach S was the head coach and he was laughing as well as our assistant coaches B R, coach D and Coach R. When I got into the locker room the whole team made fun of me but we’re all laughing as was I because after all I was wearing them to cheer up the team. I went the whole rain practice with those Jorts full of energy and excited hyping up the team. It was also a chill practice because it was during the beginning of the year so the coach was letting us have a little fun so the whole team had a good time cracking jokes about my Jorts telling me I’m the only one who likes rain practices. This carried on through my senior year of high school sports and turned into quite the inside joke with the football team. Now every time it rains the coach has a smile on his face knowing that in going to enjoy every second of practice. He always has a smile on his face whenever he asks me if I’m ever going to bring the joints back. And towards the end of the year my coach made a real Mark to me and in front of the whole team said that I was probably the one person in the entire program history who liked rain practices and for that I’ll be known for.”Rain” by Robrrt is licensed under CC BY-NC 2.0.
