After Easter, my little sister and I had gone home and played basketball I had gone through a lot of pain after and the laughter had helped me get through it. My sister was around 12 years old and probably 5’3 around the time. After we came from my grandmother’s house on Easter and went home my little sister and I played basketball I had beat her and was done playing for the day but she wanted to play one more I thought it was funny that she wanted to play so bad so I laughed it off and played another. I was taller than her and older so I would usually win this caused her to often get upset and ask for rematches one of the rematches caused me to dislocate my knee. While we were playing basketball I was beating my little sister she is very competitive so she would get upset when I beat her she would say “Let’s play until I win” She would get upset over and over again because she was so competitive. At one point in the game, I was going for the rebound and happened to dislocate my knee this was a very painful experience. My sister is really empathetic so she felt horrific and couldn’t help but put the blame on herself”If only I would’ve just taken the loss”. This was one of the most difficult times in my life both mentally and physically the pain from my knee was so severe I felt like I was going to throw up. One of the things that helped me through this was the people in the ambulance joking around and making me laugh the laughing helped keep my mind off the pain. When the ambulance arrived at the hospital and they brought me into the room I finally saw my family again my little sister felt really bad for what had happened to me and blamed it on herself. One of the ways that I tried to help her feel better was by making jokes and making her laugh she thought my jokes were pretty funny “Thank you for trying to make me feel better” she said.
During the recovery of my knee, I had a hard time mentally. It was very depressing being bedridden all the time. During the recovery I was always home the only thing that would help make me feel better was spending time with my friends and family and joking around and laughing really helped me through this time. Eventually, my knee recovered and the main thing that helped me through this was laughing with my friends and family after this I could go back to my everyday life of school and work.
