The Importance of Prep Work

Preparing for college in middle school is acceptable since starting early will help students with their path toward what they want to do. Preparing for college in middle school will help students in the future there are many students who would benefit from this experience. Students should start to prepare for college and career options early in their life. Students starting to prepare for college is an essential thing for any student who plans to go on to school. There are many advocates and pros for this I am on the side of the supporters. Students who do not prepare early may be lost when the time for college comes.

Students starting preparation is important and helpful, not starting early doesn’t give students enough time for this. Students starting preparation for college in middle school will help them in the future because many students have not had any preparation when they were younger. The importance of getting ready for college at a young age helps the many students that now take their time deciding what career path they choose this is advocated for by supporters saying “Early adolescence is such a huge time for identity development when young people are asking, ‘Who am I, and who do I want to be?”(Field). In addition to this, there are many juniors and even some seniors who aren’t entirely sure of what they want to do. If given time to prepare for college at a younger age in their life this could help them in their current situation with making decisions about college this is illustrated by the many lost students who have to go to college without the proper preparation.

Some people believe that starting to prepare for college in middle school is too early I don’t agree with this viewpoint because students need time for something this important. Middle schoolers are young and don’t have a lot of life experience so they don’t have a lot of things to base their future on. I believe that this will help students in the near future because many students who have a set plan early in their life have an easier time in school and sticking to what they want to do.

I think that preparation for college at an early age is essential many advocates for this topic also agree “Talk about his or her interests, and how college can translate their dreams into a career”(Liebowitz) Many professionals think that getting students to think about career choices at a young age will help them better prepare for their future “Advocates argue that exposing students to potential careers in middle school, rather than waiting until high school, gives them time to take the classes and extracurriculars that will get them to their goals “(Field). All these points are why I believe that preparation for college should start earlier on in a student’s academic career.
