My Name is CFournier and in Fall of 2009 I started Pre-K at Libby Tozier. I don’t remember much from that time of my life but going through each year of school I can remember a little more. One of the biggest memories I recall is taking the bus to school everyday with my siblings, waiting at the end of the driveway so excited to hear the bright yellow bus coming from down the road. Fast forward 12 ish years to now: me driving my brother and myself to school on the last few months and days of high school ever!
Growing up, I was always that kid who was quiet, shy and always missed my parents. I would cry and cry and cry at school because I missed them. Going through my years of education I have learned a lot of things since then. One of the biggest things I have learned would be to do things for yourself, to be confident and don’t let anyone around you define who you truly are. Getting into high school I felt very nervous and timid. Playing the sport I did since I was in 1st grade, I was scared to join the big high school team that I was dreaming about playing on since the beginning. Being scared to play, I was unsure if I wanted to keep playing through high school. Deciding to follow through and not giving up would become the best decision I ever made in high school. That sport was probably the thing that taught me the most about myself. How to become a leader, part of a team, hardworking, and just the overall joy that it brought to school for me.
I have made a lot of mistakes throughout my high school career but I feel that is what shaped me to become the person I am. One of the biggest things I regret from past years is not taking my freshman and sophomore year more seriously. I didn’t realize how important education was until the end of my sophomore year. Even though I struggled those years it shaped me into the hardworking, motivated person that I am today. My biggest accomplishment I would say would be becoming team captain in field hockey and getting the awards and accomplishments I did this year. When I was younger, I always thought it was so cool to be a captain of your team to be able to lead a group and bring everyone together and I worked very hard throughout my 4 years of field hockey to be able to get that accomplishment. I made it my mission this season to make the incoming freshman and even sophomores feel welcome and make them not nervous and have to debate if they want to play or not like I did.
Like I said, deciding to play was the best decision I could have ever made and I wanted everyone to feel like they belonged there and we needed to be on the team. I made friends with so many new people and built connections with so many underclassmen this past season that I probably would never have talked to because I wanted to make everyone feel like they had a friend. That would be my biggest accomplishment. I think the most important part of high school isn’t getting good grades and getting an education although that is very important but learning about yourself, creating relationships with people, gaining memories that will last forever. Because of Covid I feel it cut a lot of our high school short through being online and things being so different, but I did not let that define my experience and my high school career will forever be something I remember. I hope by listening to my story you have gained something about your story you might not have thought of. Life is like a puzzle, you can’t see the whole picture until you put the pieces together.
