As I stand here before you, looking back on my past four years of high school. I remember being in kindergarten fighting over who gets the last phone at recess and singing Taylor Swift whenever we got the chance. Now, most if not all of us are growing up, getting jobs, getting prepared for college or trade school, and moving on with our lives. I can’t help but stop and think about how time flies by within a blink of an eye, even though it may not feel like it. During my four years of high school, I’ve learned many things.
One specific accomplishment or achievement I’ve made just this year is learning how to manage and balance my time in the most efficient way possible. All throughout my middle school and high school years I’ve worked significantly hard towards my grades and was very tough on myself when it came to my schooling.
One thing I wish I would have done is taken more advanced placement (AP) classes to advance my learning and to push myself. However, I didn’t because I was already taking extra classes due to my desire to graduate a year earlier than originally planned. I wish I would’ve taken my time to relax and do more teenage activities, but I don’t regret my decision in doing this. I always made enough time for my schooling and homework but never enough for myself or my personal needs. Now that the school year is coming to an end, I’ve finally had the whole school-life balance, but I’m sure once college starts this fall I’m going to have the same problem again but this time around I’ll have a better idea of what I’m doing and how to manage.
One thing you may or may not realize is you can do everything right, get the best grades possible, and take all the right classes to succeed, but that isn’t guaranteed that you’ll succeed in anything you do out of school. You could be the smartest person and still be the most useless person around when it comes to certain things. Just because you work hard towards something doesn’t mean you’re going to do good when you’re out of school. You don’t have to receive good grades or straight A’s to do good things or to do good in life. School is like a treasure box, full of many different treasures and surprises. School may be miserable but it has so many benefits at the end of the day. School helps so many students become knowledgeable and successful in the things or paths that they choose after high school. Yes, with no doubt school can be a pain, but it is one of the best things for the youth.
One thing that upcoming students should do is work hard, take risks, advocate for themselves, push themselves, and never give up on themselves or their dreams because this is just the beginning of their journey and there is so much more to life than what you’ve been exposed to. When something gets hard and you don’t think you’re going to make it though is when you have to push yourself and persevere through. Learn how to be different and do your own things. Learn how to be great. Learn how to be the very best you can. Learn how to be different and do things that challenge you and push through and challenge yourself to do and be the best you can. Push yourself to take risks so you know what is felicitous to you.
