What is a mistake? Mistakes can be small or they can be big. I have made a lot of mistakes in my life, and I will continue to make mistakes for the rest of my life. This being said, it is important to learn from these mistakes, even if it’s small, just like what my friend and I did. This allows people to grow into a better version of themselves through the mistakes that they make.
A time in my life when I made a mistake was on a random rainy day. I made the mistake of wearing the wrong shoes. It might seem like a small little mistake, but there’s a bigger picture behind it. Forgetting to wear the right shoes for the weather made the entire day difficult. It was a date day with my friend and the day started with going into town and getting something to eat, along with doing a little shopping. It had been raining overnight and stopped early morning. Everything was still a little damp, but it was a warm day so I didn’t think much about it. After our morning shopping, we decided to go play some mini-golf since it was a nice day. I wanted to dress a little nicer than I normally do for the day, and decided to wear my new white shoes. My friend had told me to dress comfortably, but I didn’t listen to him. This decision was a mistake I made that would kick me later in the day. The day had been going good, and then my friend decided he wanted to go on a walk to give us something else do to outside other than mini-golf. This is when the white shoes became the mistake.
The rain the night before had dried up from the sun during the day, but in places where there wasn’t much sun showing through was still wet. Although my friend didn’t think about the rain that had just occurred either, his mistake was still less than mine. Wearing my white shoes would make the walk a little more difficult than planned. Although walking on the trail was still a lot of fun, the shoes I had chosen to wear brought many obstacles for the walk. We had to go around muddy puddles and find different small trails within the big one to avoid some big puddles. There were points within the walk that it felt as if the trail were a maze, and we were going through it to avoid the mud. My friend loved every minute of the walk and enjoyed laughing at me trying to walk. The beginning of the walk started fine, and there wasn’t much mud to worry about. The further we got down the trail the worse it got. We were walking uphill for most of it and then halfway through, the downhill began. Going downhill was puddle after puddle, but we made it to the end of the trail. It was worth every puddle we encountered because the view was beautiful. Although it was just a small mistake, I have learned a big lesson from it. I’ve learned that it is important to take a second to think things through before taking action.
It might have been a small mistake, but it brought different problems and obstacles to the plate as well. Since I didn’t take a minute to think about whether I should wear my white shoes on the walk or not, it made the walk more difficult than it should have been. The mistake I made has taught me to never wear nice shoes on a walk in the woods. This was a mistake that I will always remember because I have learned a lesson from it. Although the day was still a lot of fun, I have learned my lesson. If anything is taken away from this it would be to think things through before taking action. Even if it’s something as small as what shoes you should wear, it can make a huge difference in the end picture.
