Our True Self is Shown Through Problems

Problems shape who we are today. Life on its own has problems. Everyone can interpret this differently, but how I do it feels pretty generic. Problems allow humans to shape who they are, and show the best version of themselves. This can be a big thing or it can be something small. I have personally faced many problems in my life and I am only seventeen years old, and although I have already faced a lot of problems I know I have so many more to deal with.
There are many different opinions on how problems shape a person’s life. People who have talked about problems are doctors, actors, writers, and many more. When I hear the quote “A problem is a chance for you to do your best” by Duke Ellington, I imagine it as a way to tell mankind that there is always an opportunity to do your best work. A time in my life when I had to deal with a problem but was able to do my best was this past summer. I have always loved watching volleyball and it is something that I’ve always enjoyed. It wasn’t until this past summer that I started playing. The problem I faced with this is I had a hard time coming out of my shell. When I’m around new people or people who I’m not very comfortable with I have a hard time being out there. I like to lay low and go with the flow of things. Since I have such a big liking for volleyball, I was willing to be the best version of myself and overcome the problem that I was facing. I got out of my shell and played, which showed my best side. This was the best decision I have ever made. I had so much fun playing and continued to do it for the rest of the summer. This event shows how I was facing the problem of not being comfortable getting out of my shell, but I could show the best side of myself and overcome this problem.
A famous person who has gone through many problems and challenges in his life is Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson is a famous singer who had to deal with problems in life and his career. A big problem he faced was his skin disorder, which later led him to grow famous. He suffered from a skin disease called vitiligo. Vitiligo is a skin disease where you loose skin color in blotches. He was accused of skin bleaching and trying to hide his being black. This was all false and was a huge problem in his life. Because of this disease, Michael Jackson was able to improve his career and become the best singer possible. It drew people to him because they were interested in his story, and who he was, allowing him to do his best. This problem leads Michael to be able to show his best side, along with his talent in music. He suffered from a problem he couldn’t help, and it ended up helping him show his best side, and what he can do as an artist.
In conclusion, I agree with the quote “A problem is a chance for you to do your best” by Duke Ellington because problems are what shape who we are. Life is full of challenges, and everyone faces problems throughout their life. It’s unavoidable, and without it, life would be dull.
