What really is graffiti

Graffiti what is it? I’ll tell you it’s one of the hardest things ever to classify. Graffiti is so hard to classify because it can be considered both art or vandalism it just depends how you look at it. For me, I look at it in a way of illegal art not that it’s always illegal but majority of the time it is. There are many reasons graffiti is considered art and many reasons it’s not considers art. let me show you some of the reason graffiti should be considered art.

In this world, there are a variety of different art forms and graffiti is just one of the many different types. Graffiti is slowly starting to be shown in galleries all over the place “People are used to seeing graffiti art in public spaces, after all, that’s what makes it graffiti. However, after years of gaining recognition by the art community, graffiti art has been shown in various galleries in New York and London” (“Graffiti as Art”)art galleries are not going to show something that isn’t art so if you were to classify graffiti as not art they wouldn’t be showing it. Something else to think about is people that create graffiti can even be paid to do it “artists are often commissioned to do legal murals and other work for art shows”(“Graffiti as Art”). another thing about there being different art forms is that art doesn’t have to follow any specific rules so that means anything can technically be considers art, so if anything can be considered art, why can’t graffiti be considered art to.

Something else to consider when thinking about weather graffiti is art is what we call people who create graffiti, we call them graffiti artists “Although its artistic merits can’t be denied, graffiti is still in fact a form of vandalism. Artists tag both public and private property, which becomes costly for taxpayers and business and property owners.” (“Graffiti as Art”)even when calling graffiti vandalism we still refer to the people who create it as artists. What do artists create art, we aren’t going to call some who don’t create art and artist so if we are going to refer to people who create graffiti artists then they must be making art then. Another thing about artists is that they don’t only create pieces of art on a caves they create a variety of things like sculptures and murals so this is no limit on what artists can do so they aren’t just limited to a single piece of paper and never should be.

When you travel the world you have a possibility of seeing graffiti any wear you go “You can travel almost anywhere in the world, and you will probably see graffiti. Although graffiti art is usually more common in big cities, the reality is that it can occur in almost any community, big or small.”(“Is Graffiti Art?”) one thing that any country can have in common is graffiti, graffiti is something you can see no matter where you travel. When you see graffiti the first thing many people think is that’s pretty not that’s illegal they might also say I love that art or that artist and those words in them self tell you what lots of people really think of graffiti they think of it as art

What is graffiti art or vandalism? With all the info I have given I believe graffiti is and will always be art, it might sometimes be illegal but it is still art in my opinion.
