Social Media

One of the reasons social media is good is because it connects communities to other communities. If there is a natural disaster in or around a community they can reach out and warn each other, as well as communicate about what is happening in or around the neighborhood. Other things like the police or firefighters could have accounts to inform citizens about what is happening in their city or town which can inform them if they need to evacuate or if they need to stay in their homes. Schools also have accounts on social media, either made by students for other students, teachers for students, or parents. social media connects everyone to each other.

Another good thing about social media is the fact that you can connect with people around the world. When on social media you can connect with people in your area, or you can connect with people around the world, learn new things about them or even yourself. When you meet new people you experience a new culture and how they live in their region as well as learn about what kind of foods they eat, and even learn about what kind of animals they have. Another great thing about social media is that they have community groups that people can join to learn about things in or about their town/city. They can also share about things they like or have in common with that specific group, another thing you can do is share how you’re feeling or what’s going on in your part of the world.

While social media is good and handy, social media can also have a dark side. People post a whole bunch of pictures of what they are doing in their life, either to show their interests and how they live, and while people see it and go “wow that’s so cool”, while others will go nobody cares about this, and while it’s fine to have one’s own opinion. Another bad side of social media is when people comment hurtful things on people’s post that are not necessary and they don’t realize how hurtful this can be for a person. Some people will just shrug it off and say they don’t care if people post hurtful comments, but it can still hurt them even if they say they don’t care, it can cause them to have insecurities, fall into a depression and cause them to not want to post anything.

So with all the information above social media can be good because it connects communities and you can learn about or share new things, but social media can also be bad and harmful to a person and communities.
