I have a very funny dog, his name is Buddy and he’s a boxer mix. Buddy likes to talk, not like growling in what sounds like human words but more so a sound between a whine and a growl that he does in response to people speaking to him. This is all to build up how smart my boy is, his favorite toy is a tennis ball and playing would be the first time he’d “talk” more than just a whine. The ball didn’t belong to Buddy, it was my big brothers since he played tennis but Buddy found it and it became his.
There’s a narrow hallway in my house that I threw the ball down, Buddy attempting to catch the ball would bounce it off his snout then off the wall and chasing the ball down the hallway. That was giggle worthy enough but despite tail wagging I looked him in the eye and then asked him “What are you doing Silly? Didn’t that hurt?” he did the thing where his front goes down and his butt is up wiggling from excitement before letting out a long whine. Of course I’m playing with him and said “Are you talking back to me?” and he’d make those funny boxers growls before getting the tippy-taps. I dropped to my knees and laughed as I started to say “Is someone being…” he cut me with another one of his silly dog sounds before practically bowling me over as he ran to me for scratches. I was slobbered by my seventy pound dog as he gave kisses as I told him what a good boy he is. Buddy is definitely not very graceful, bouncing tennis balls off his snout is a regular occurrence along with him seeming to forget how big he is. He’s backtrack to grab his ball to get me to throw it again, without dropping it though, he wanted me to throw the ball without taking it from him. “You have to give it to me first” I tell him as he kinda bumps his snout against me with a whine, it’s as if he’s disagreeing with me. “Bud, please” I ask again and he huffs like I’m the one causing issues. I’d have to physically take the ball out of his mouth, he’s a very gentle dog and is careful to hold the ball without nipping my fingers.
I eventually win the little impromptu tug of war (he let me win) and threw the ball for him again. The second time he brought the ball back he would be excited enough to run over and actually jump up this time. I laughed as he nearly bounced off the walls to get the ball. It would end with me sitting on the couch watching something as Bud curled up on my legs chewing on his ball.Buddy gives me a lot of laughs, just being around him makes me feel relaxed and happy. Laughter is truly the best medicine and having a silly dog is better than anything.
