Sunflower

My partner OMckenzie, created an avatar of a sunflower, their sunflower creates more than one meaning being abstract art. Their sunflower has a crescent moon on one side and the sun on the other. The stem of the flower is green with two leaves coming off it. I had asked her if the two leaves had any meaning but she said “They were for the aesthetic of the sunflower”. The moon half of the sunflower is a black/yellow mix of color, this was created to make it look darker than the sun side of the avatar. The other half of the sunflower is the sun, colored in yellow, with an orange ray around the sun. The sunflower is positioned in the center of the avatar.

OMckenzie’s avatar grabbed my attention because at first glance it looked like a sunflower but it is the sun and the moon. The simplicity of the avatar is also an attention grabber because there is one item with multiple symbols. Immediately looking at the avatar the sun of the sunflower grabbed my attention because of the orange ray around it, making it pop out in color, grabbing my attention.

She created this avatar because of her love for sunflowers. They are Omckenzie’s favorite flowers, and she chose to draw the sunflower as her avatar because she thinks it represents her personality. She stated, “If I was a flower I would want to be a Sunflower because of their brightness”. Her intent behind the moon of the sunflower was to represent day and night, there wasn’t another meaning behind that choice other than the illusion looked cool to her. OMcKenzie said, “I like sunflowers because they smell good and make me happy”.

My process to create my avatar was different from OMckenzie’s because I used more symbols and items that had taken up my full avatar. It had taken me multiple ideas because I thought of many ideas and things I wanted to use but could only use a few. Her process was a lot shorter and had chosen to draw 1 thing that she cared about and thought represented her well. She had only used a few drafts to get her avatar to look how she wanted and I had used all of the draft spots to decide what one I liked.

Sunflowers represent strength, good fortune, admiration, and loyalty. OMckenzie had drawn the sunflower because of her passion for sunflowers, although it might be a flower, her definition of a sunflower creates meaning for the peddles.
