Having an older sister is the best thing you could ask for. From a young age, Gertrude and I may not have gotten along well, but through the years we have grown closer. Close enough to be best friends. And we practically were. Whenever she needed something she would come to me. whenever i needed something I would go to her.
My sister Gertrude is 2 years older than me. We grew up in a small house in the woods of Sabattus, Maine. The year that we actually grew closer was her sophomore and my 8th grade year. This would have been during Covid in late 2020. Being stuck at home all day and nothing to do except enjoy being around each other. We would both watch TV in the times that we weren’t in online school. We would converse over the small things like, markiplier or jacksepticeye, how we both thought that they were good social media influencers. How we loved to watch their game play on Youtube. Over time, this went on and we grew closer and closer.
Until Gertrude got her license. This would have been in her junior year and my freshman year. Gertrude got it in the winter of that year. At first, my parents would not let me drive with her at all, because “it was unsafe to have a new driver drive you around” so we had to wait longer to do things together. The time came that I could drive with her and the first thing that we did together was go to Massachusetts and see Six Flags. That was such a fun day. We finally bonded after 14 years of being siblings. We made jokes and laughed all day long until we were driving home at 10 pm at night. We had a 3 hour drive ahead of us and it was already 10 pm.
Although it was late, it was fun. We blasted music in the car with the windows down going 80 on the highway northbound. At the time we were driving this shitty 2010 Nissan Sentra that had 240 thousand miles on it, the car was falling apart; missing a couple panels and missing the rear door jam. But we still made the times we spent in the car fun. Racing cars on the highway and even almost crashing on an off ramp going 65 on a roundabout. But we made it home safely. This time that we spent together was the best we had, had in such a long time. To wrap it up, laughter is what bonded me and Gertrude’s relationship, it is what holds it together still today and we have such fun doing these things together.
