An Importance of a Digital Footprint

A positive digital is essential for employers when they are considering hiring you, there are many things that employers look for including, making sure that you are qualified for the position you are applying. They may also be looking if you are a good match for the job atmosphere that they have cultivated and there are many reasons an employer would want to make sure of no weird online activity that would make them question if you’re the right fit.

The importance of having a digital footprint is important to show how you are as a person, and your creativity, and show that you meet the requirements for the job. It helps show how you are different from others who are also being considered for the job and having a good digital footprint can set you apart from the competition, so it’s important to use your name and start to build up positive things companies look for when hiring “students need to learn that using their real name online is not always a bad thing, it is part of creating a positive digital footprint that others will see”(jalger 1) Showing that having a good footprint rather than negative will impact you greatly in today’s technological boom and showing a employer that you might not be a fit for a job you apply to.

A student can do many things to create a positive digital footprint, such as uploading their work online and maybe posting stuff on social media in a very positive light, starting a blog or website to show off things they are passionate about to show their personality and creativity and having no footprint or a negative footprint is bad for employers trying to get to know you and may cost you some opportunity’s so having a footprint is vital in the digital era. One of the many ways that Students can create a good footprint is by starting an online blog about something they are passionate about and having discussions about it.

Another thing is creating a digital resume. “It’s important to get students thinking about and practicing digital resumes, as well as the traditional paper resume. In today’s world, a digital resume is much more important and useful for your future.”(jalger1) and it is more practical for more modern work opportunities compared to the paper version.

Be part of a community service project that publishes the work that they and their members do. Always makes a digital footprint look good.

The many ways of creating a positive footprint and how a negative could impact you in the future and the importance that technology has had in the ways people and employers look at people’s behavior online to gauge what they are like as a person so make sure your footprint is a positive one.
