Is graffiti art? Well some people believe it is vandalism, but I believe it is art. When it comes to the components of art; art is creativity, imagination, and the ability to think of new and unusual things. this essay will discus how graffiti is art, what counts as art, and why it should be kept in museums. and not on others property without permission.
I belive graffiti is a form of art because it take’s just as much time, creativity, and passion as any other painting or drawing. Graffiti artist take time and need practice just like the painters who’s art is in museum. For these artists “larger pieces require planning and imagination and contain artistic elements like color and composition.”(source 3 -aesthetics) This statement from the article called “Graffiti as art”, helps state that the elements used in graffiti art are the same elements painters and other types of artists use. When they state this it also gives the idea that it takes just as much time and creativity as any other big panting. Although the form of tagging has less value due to its simplicity, it is there to perly get the artist name out nothing more; “Tags have little aesthetic appeal and probably should not be considered art.”(source 3 -aesthetics) Also from the article “Graffiti as art” they make the point that tagging shoudnt be considered art because of its lack of appeal, or creativity. This section of the essay helps explain why graffiti should be seen as art this is because of the time, passion, and creatvity that gose into all of the big beutiful designs you see.
Some people believe that graffiti isn’t art that graffiti is a sign of vandalism and destruction of others property. In Los Angeles a man named Gray Kulati deals with graffiti artists painting on his building and he isn’t happy about it; when a news show went to see him and talked about what happening, he tells them that “This is like this every day” Gery Kulati runs this furniture making business in Los Angeles but his custom designs are taking a back seat to the graffiti plastered all over his walls, signs, and dumpster “it’s not art”” ( source 2, 0:00- 0.12) Gray wants these people to stopped because he see it as a distraction from his business. But as the news reporters talk to him and show him the museum of graffiti art he later states that “somebody feels it’s art and they want it in their house they should have it in their house I don’t need it on my building I don’t want it on my building.” (source 2 – 1:47-1:51) Meaning that he dose think it can be art, and that not all of it is bad, he just doesn’t want it on his building. Gray is making a very valid point; art is perceived differently though the eyes of the beholder meaning everyone will see it differently.
In conclusion graffiti is a form of art, this is because of the creativity, imagination, and the ability to think of new and unusual things. Although I believe it shouldn’t be on private property because it is disrespectful to the owners of the building, it should be seem in museums and on building of willing participants.
