Art Sometimes

Graffiti is not art when put in wrong locations. It is damaging other people’s property, and is also illegal. We should provide more ways for people to express themselves rather than graffiti which damages everybody.

Doing graffiti on other people’s properties is not ok, going out of your way to mark and put colors all over something that people have paid for or even worked hard to obtain over time. Destroying someone’s property for some art I do not think is ok. For example painting on their fence or spray paint all over the side of their business just because. This art is not legal and shouldn’t be done by anybody for any reason. Doing graffiti is doing constant damage to people all the time. There is a man who had to repaint his fence 7 times in the last year because of his fence getting covered in spray paint constantly. People with personal property have started using paint that is spray paint repellent and can be washed off of the walls, fences, etc easily with some water. This shouldn’t have to be done.

To continue with the issues of graffiti, I would like to mention that it is not only wrong but also illegal. In the United States you get charged with vandalism if you are caught doing graffiti. If you get tried as an adult you could be facing upward of $2,000 in fines and could even get a year in jail. You could have to deal with all of these punishments because you decided to spray paint someone’s property. This is wrong and should not be done no matter what your reasoning is if it is on someone else’s property.

In order to convince people to not do these illegal activities on people’s property, we should try to produce and convince people to use canvases and/or their own property. If we do this we could lower the amount of graffiti placement across the entire world. We should ensure that people have a way to express their art and personality through art just not illegally. People need to be able to show their true colors, without getting into legal trouble.

In conclusion to my thoughts on graffiti I believe that it is wrong, it needs to be stopped and there needs to be alternatives. It damages other people’s properties, it is illegal in many countries. This also all provides a reason that we as a whole should put more effort into finding other outlets for people to use so they don`t graffiti where they shouldn’t. Graffiti is bad and shouldn’t be persuaded. So in the end I believe that Graffiti is not considered art.
