Friendship

” Laughter is the shortest distance between two people”. This is true with my best friend Me and Nathan’s friendship. Our friendship proves that no matter the distance between us, it will always feel shorter due to our ability to always be able to laugh with each other. We have been friends for what feels like forever. He is truly the funniest person that I know. Every time I see him I can count on the fact that I will be laughing almost the whole time. I have had so many laughs with him that I can’t even remember all the times that we laughed with each other. I’m always to the point of tears when I’m around him.

Nathan and I started our friendship in second grade. I still remember when we would shove ice cream and cake into our faces every time we ate lunch together. One time we did this was when we went to a mutual friend’s birthday party and we stood up in front of everyone and demonstrated the proper way to eat a cupcake. We took the cupcakes and shoved them in our face making a huge mess. This memory is very nostalgic for me, it always makes me laugh thinking about the things we used to do to entertain ourselves. Mine and Nathan’s friendship is filled with memories like this. Another memory that we have is in fifth grade when we would play football together in the playground. We spent most of the time arguing about the rules because we are both very bossy individuals but the other half of the time we would laugh and joke around bringing us closer and closer as friends. Our friendship went through a bit of a rough patch during middle school. We stopped talking to each other not because we got into a fight but because we just drifted apart. This was a common theme with our friendship. We had drifted apart before but we always came back together just the same if not closer. We will forever be able to come back and laugh with each other no matter what happens. About a year ago we started working together at Gowells and our friendship sparked back to life like it always has before. It first started with us working a couple shifts together and we would just talk and joke around with each other all the time. Something about laughing together and joking around made us so much closer as friends like we never had been before.

Now Nathan is one of my best friends and maybe even the only person the really knows me. Our laughs together turned into a real friendship and now I will have him in my life forever. We are now both looking to go to college in different places and our years of friendship is facing its ultimate test. We may drift apart again like we have before, both of our lives taking us into different directions. But I know that one thing will never change, he will always be the person I call if I need a good laugh. No matter the distance between us it will always feel short because we will always be able to laugh with each other.
