Adults vs Children

Kids should not have the same rights as adults due to many reasons such as brain develpment and because they are not fully capable of making the best decisions due to the first point. Adults have the right to do as they please within reason. Adults have had more brain development than children and can think about their actions with a better thought process. Quora said, “Children have fewer rights than adults for several reasons, Primarily related to their developmental stage, dependency, societal roles.”(Quora). Children can not determine whether an action is good or bad at a young age most of the time. Therefore adults have more rights. They have developed to a higher level not only in their brain but socially and emotionally.

Children and adults have the same general rights, but when it comes to decision making they are different. Adults have more brain development than and child and can make the best decision for the situation. A child on the other hand may not be able to make the best decisions. Here is an example of what some parents go through with their teenagers. “One of the most painful and frustrating things for parents is watching their teens make bad choices and “throw it all away.” Some of these choices include running with the wrong crowd, blowing off homework, dropping out of school, drinking and doing drugs, and engaging in risky behavior.” (Empoweringparents.com). This example shows how a lot of teens can’t make good choices when it comes to peer pressure especially. If an adult has gotten themselves into criminal activities that is their decision, if a child did the same thing it could be something that is happening at home or they see it happening around them. Children often follow what others are doing around them to fit in. Children have many examples around them on how to act or the manners to have, and if they are shown something that is wrong it can have a big impact on how they think through different things.

Oftentimes when a child has boundaries or limits to what they can do they are set to have a better future. The adults around them just want them to have a successful future and they need to set boundaries or limited rights for that to happen then that is what it takes. Children’s rights are also limited because it can be a way parents or guardians decide to protect the child. A lot can happen if a child could make all the same decisions as adults. A website called “Key, Greer, Harrison, & Casey” said that “A minor child is more vulnerable than an adult, and it is important that children have rights to protect them. In order to have protections and safeguards, it is necessary to limit some rights that adults may have in the same or similar situations.”(Key, Greer, Harrison, & Casey). This quote shows how children are more vulnerable and more known to make decisions without thinking them fully through. Therefore Children should not have the same rights as adults.
