Self-driving cars are no longer the future and it is now, with Tesla making advances, other companies have started to try and compete with them by making driverless cars too. Driverless cars are becoming popular, and there is more technology than ever. Driverless cars work by sensors reflecting the surroundings to see what is around them, to follow the road, to stop, to see oncoming objects and keep the car aligned, “High-end cars already bristle with radar, which can track nearby objects. For instance, Mercedes’ Distronic Plus, an accident-prevention system, (Vanderbilt.) , The sensors are eyes for the brain of the car. There is an on-board computer that makes decisions based on what sensors see. Self-driving cars are still a work in progress but one day will because the way the world works.

Although technology is getting better, there are still some parts of self-driving cars that have limitations and problems. Recently, there was a fatal self-driving car crash for Tesla because there was a white tractor-trailer truck shining brightly because of the sun, and the sensors did not pick it up, driving right into the side of the tractor-trailer truck. there are issues with road work being done, messing with the cars. Other drivers on the roads can cause an accident with the self-driving car, and a robot does not have human instincts to dodge or react to someone rear-ending you. there is always hacking when the tech gets better, the hacking is more vulnerable. road conditions, the computer doesn’t know when it’s raining out, and the roads could have washed out, causing an issue for safety. Olivia Solon said this in an article talking about why these vehicles aren’t safe yet. “Rain can reduce the range and accuracy of laser-based Lidar sensors, obscure the vision of on-board cameras and create confusing reflections and glare.” Even though there are issues, developers are going to figure these things out and make adjustments to make these self-driving cars the future.

This New technology is being put to use all over the world in self-driving cars. companies are making advances, and with competitors improving, the technology is only getting better. soon enough, driving cars are going to be safer, the technology will be so good that it will be better then humans driving. The technology is being used by companies that created and used gas engines, like the company Ford, which is working to make self-driving cars as well. Self-driving cars will only get better and the future of the world is almost here.
