I would like to explain why I prefer a phone call over texting and my reason behind it. I would like to be contacted over a phone rather than a text. As I write this essay, I aim to explain why I prefer a call and why a text is less than optimal. As you will see, there are many advantages of calling and many disadvantages of texting. Although texting has it’s place, it’s not a healthy way of communicating with friends or family. Sometimes your text can come out negatively when you didn’t intend it to, then the other person might text you back nicely or come back with the same thing, its easy to miscommunication. There have been times that my mother has messaged me the expected time I am to come home. I have taken that as her being upset, however it was just her touching base because she cares.
Communication is very important to all relationships and it’s very important to relay information back and forth in a positive manner. Hopefully, as you read my essay, you will understand my thought process and how I came to this conclusion. I don’t know about you, but when I receive a phone call from a friend of loved on, there is a sense of excitement. Hearing the other persons voice captures their emotions and builds a stronger bond, where texting does not. Since I believe in building strong relationships, this is very important to me. The most important issue I have with texting is you cannot determine tone and it often times leads to misunderstandings and frustration. A text message was never intended to replace a phone call, just to simply touch base and maybe ask a quick closed ended question. A phone call avoids all miscommunication or misunderstanding due to the fact that you can hear tone and know where the other person is coming from. But I believe the skill of being able to pick up the phone and still carry conversation, and who choose to call just have something more in the moment important than someone who can send a text and might have to wait for a response for a little longer compared to just about instant when you call, but should usually think about if you do call someone make sure they’re not at school. In the future I know my life will consist of both of them, my personal life will be messaging my friends and family, also I will pick up the phone and make a call. I do strongly believe that my future business will consist of some text messaging to keep up with the times, but just calling will mostly be what I will be doing.
