Self driving cars

Things have been changing for many years with advancing technology you can do a lot of new things like making cars self driving. There are many pros and cons to self driving like how self driving works, the current problems of them and the new technology. Self driving vehicles have become a big talk now between the new tesla they have come out with.

The Tesla is currently one of the self-driving cars as they are making other car brands come out with a new self-driving car. The tesla uses  “radar to detect the car’s position in lane, the proximity of other cars and the speed limit.” The tesla uses these so they can detect things so it can be a self driving car instead of humans checking their surroundings the cars do it themselves. Volvo also has a self-driving car that has very similar features to the Tesla like the cruise control and the lane checking. Most self-driving cars will need these things so they can do it similar to how a real person driving would.

There are many big problems with self driving cars one of the are car accidents. In the article Musk talks about his tesla and how  “the cameras struggled with the glare from the sun, while the radar — according to Musk — “tunes out what looks like an overhead road sign to avoid false braking events”.” This makes it hard to make someone at fault for the accident because there is nobody in the car driving. The weather can be a big part as well like the “Rain can reduce the range and accuracy of laser-based Lidar sensors, obscure the vision of on-board cameras and create confusing reflections and glare.” This can be very dangerous and also cause faulty assumptions and also could cause another car accident. Hacking is a huge thing these days. It’s so easy to get into cameras,internet, phones but the same could happen with cars when they use these high end technology where the car is fully made up of technology someone could easily hack into the car making it very dangerous.

Technology is always growing people are always building and trying to invent new things. Cars over the years have become more and more advance with the add ons to car. They are using these new technologies to help build these self-driving cars. Lane keeping is a new technology you can find in many vehicles now. They are “Windshield-mounted cameras recognize lane markings by spotting the contrast between the road surface and the boundary lines. If the vehicle leaves its lane unintentionally, brief vibrations of the steering wheel alert the driver.” These things help drivers know when they need to move back into their lanes. Gps is huge today as well. Many people will use gps on their phone to follow to get where they need to go. They can install these in self-driving cars to program where you want to go. technology is a big part in these self driving cars and some of these techniques they are using they already use in automatic cars.

I personally like being in charge of my vehicle. I don’t like the idea of self driving cars. There are so many what ifs and technology has bugs all the time. I’d rather try to be able to avoid the accident myself then rely on a car making decisions. Especially with how most people can be very unpredictable with how they drive. I think it would be easier for me to see things than a car especially if it’s raining or snowing. Self driving cars do have good technology to help prevent things but they have proven that the sun and rain make glares causing the vehicles not to see cars or certain objects.

There are many things about self-driving cars that could be good and bad. It all depends on the technology being used, how they are making it and their limitations for the cars. These all play a huge part in these new self-driving cars. I think technology is a big thing these days but I think self driving cars are to dangerous at this time.
