Cruelty of bad weather

Weather almost anywhere can be unpreventable and unpredictable – and it can be cruel. From hurricanes to tornadoes, earthquakes to blizzards, there is nothing you can do about it but plan around it if need be. Bad weather recently prevented my family and I from having a simple and safe journey to our vacation.
A huge northeaster, also known as a blizzard recently came through the upper and lower parts of New England even going down as far as uper southern states. Being from New England, the storm was not a surprise nor unheard of. Schools and buisnesses were closed for the day and everything was fine…except the fact that my family and I were schedueled to fly out of Portland, ME during all of this to reach our connecting flight in Newark, NJ the following day.
Obviously, the flight was cancelled. There were no other flights leaving anywhere close to us reaching New Jersey for at least four days. So, we decided we were going to rent a car, and drive the six hours to get to the state in witch our connecting flight was located. Mind you, doing this in a huge blizzard. The six hour drive turned into a ten hour road trip from Maine to New Jersey.
Due to the cruelty of the weather, we traveled almost being the only bones on the road with the exceptions of big-rig trucks and a few other cars here and there. The snow was terrible and definitely not letting up. We saw everything from cars off the road, swerving, and even an 18-wheeler crashed into guard-rail and jackknifed. Besides seeing others all over the road, personally we did not have any accidents luckily. Swearing a few times yes, but that’s a given in any snowy weather. Personally, I was not scared or worried about being on the road during this snow storm…I was more worried about not being able to make it to our final destination due to other delays. The cruel part for me was the possibility of not being able to leave the snow.
Weather is a cruel part of this world. It has the ability to delay people, take from people, both life and belongings and can destroy someones entire life. Although there are multiple negative outcomes that come with the weather, there are positives as well. The cruelty of it unfortunately tends to overcome the positively of it though.
