No regrets!

As a kid, it was always somewhat hard for me to ask a question, or even ask for something, since I asked a lot of questions, and I hated being told “no”. I was always curious about a lot of things, so I did ask questions, but it made it harder for me to ask questions, since I did not like annoying people. I would often get scolded by my parents and teachers for asking so many questions. Thinking about it now, I find it somewhat hilarious, because some of my questions were really irrelevent ones and was useless information. Even so, it was very hard to ask for things I wanted, because I never wanted be too selfish. You can be selfish, but not all the time. The world does not revolve around me, and I knew that very well. However, sometimes it’s okay to ask ridiculous questions, and that’s what I’ve learned over time. So anyways, on to the story.
When I was about 12, my mom and step-dad were debating on whether or not they get a dog for my sister. When I heard about it, I was ecstatic. I loved dogs, and I always will. However, I forgot that the dog was not for me. My parents later decided that they would get a dog, but it was not until months later that they would get the dog. They found a puppy that was close by, and brought my sister to pick it up. Even though I knew I was not going to own the dog, I was still very excited. When the dog came, I opened the door. From talking to my sister, I learned that the puppy was an American Bull dog, Boxer, Lab mix. He had the biggest ears I had seen for a dog his size! I thought he was part Beagle or something. He was a tanish color, with white on his stomach. After a few days, my sister decided to name the dog Ace, after a rock band her friend liked. When Ace got older, he was huge and muscular like his father! By the time his second birthday came around, he was 90 pounds. Whenever Ace wagged his tail, he would sway side to side. He was also known for being very tall and clumsy, since he constantly knocked over table and chairs. He was such a happy dog for a while, but it changed later on. After a while, my sister decided to run away from home, leaving Ace behind. You could tell Ace was heartbroken, and so was my mom.
My mom decided that she would take care of Ace and rename him Dimebag, after an American musician. However, things got a little worse. Ace was not moving or eating, and was sleeping in my room a lot. At first, my mom thought he was depressed, but she did not know what was going on, since she was working a lot. I tried to get Ace/ Dimebag to get up, but all he did was groan in pain. I knew it was something else, but I didn’t know what to do. I felt like I should ask, but I knew it would cost a lot to take him there. It took me a few minutes, but I got the courage to ask my mom to take him to the vet. It was really hard to take him to the car, since I had to carry a 90 pound dog with my older sister to the car. It was a horrible car ride for him, for he groaned in pain the whole way. We took him there, and found out he had Lyme Disease. The poor dog. He never deserved this. My mom was sad about this, and felt she couldn’t take care of him, since she worked a lot. My mom later decided that she would get rid of Ace, but I could not stand it. The poor dog was alone and had Lyme Disease. What could be worse? I felt like it was not my place, but I could not leave Ace/Dimebag alone like that, so I asked, “may I keep him? I’ll give him his meds and take care of him”. My mom decided to give me Ace/Dimebag, and I was thrilled! Years later, Ace has never been better, at least that’s what I think. I have no regrets, because taking care of him is something I love doing. Ace/Dimebag is such an amazing dog! He is very friendly and smart dog, even after all that’s happened. His Lyme Disease is in full control, and he’s doing very well. He later had puppies with another Pitbull, Boxer mix, and the puppies are so amazing! He had 9 puppies, and they’re just like him, with sway when they wag their tails and how energetic they are. I’m glad I got to take care of Ace/ Dimebag. If I never asked, I would never be the same without him.

That’s a pretty sad story but it ended really well because of you. It is good you asked to take the dog to the vets because it would not be the same now if you did not ask. Did this experience help you ask questions more?

Yes it did. This experience helped me with being nervous of asking questions, and I got better at asking questions.
