TheUtmostTrouble TheUtmostTrouble

Christmas

I am well aware that I’m not one of the most intelligent people, I say dumb things, and I occasionally ask dumb questions. I’m surrounded every day, by very smart people, so that makes it even worse. My friends are smart, my family coworkers. These people are my friends, but sometimes they can make me feel very dumb because, well, I’m not the brightest when it comes to certain things. I may ask questions sometimes, that people I don’t know would look at me dumb founded for, but, luckily, my friends and family have accepted my lack of knowledge, and although I do get made fun of for it every now and then, I know they only mean well.

There was one question in particular, that may have been at one of my lower points in life, but it was honestly just for confirmation, and although Luchini, Kiera and Nik didn’t look at it that way, it gave us all a good laugh. Well more like something for them to make fun of me about for the rest of the school year, and probably the rest of my life, knowing Luchini. Just a little back story before I reveal what this question was, this did happen this year, and I asked the question without hardly any hesitation, but everybody has those days, right?

So, a few months back while I was in the process of getting my passport, I was sitting in Luchini’s classroom, waiting for the say to be over so I could go home and take a nap because high school is tiring. I was in the room with Luchini, Kiera and Nik, some of my close friends, and a teacher I really respect and look up to filling out the paper, and I needed my parent’s information, such as, birthday’s, emails, work and so on. I had been working on filling this paper out because I needed my passport as soon as possible, and it was the end of the school day so my brain wasn’t feeling like doing too much work. Anyway, I was filling out my dad’s section of the paper and I know his birthdays the day after Christmas, but I’m very bad with actual dates of things, so I wasn’t positive of Christmas was the 24th or the 25th, I know, this is even low for me. So, naturally, I ask, “Is Christmas on the 25th?”. The three of them in the room just die of laughter, as they are firing shots at me because, yes, I really did just ask if Christmas is on the 25th. Even after time passed, they would still talk about it. Luchini brings it up almost every time I see him in the hall, he never passes up the opportunity. Looking back at it, it was an extremely dumb question, and they all made that very clear, I literally could’ve just looked it up on my phone, but instead I voiced it out loud and I regret it to this day.

Stupid questions are very common, luckily you were able to laugh it off, and not be embarrassed. I have asked many questions that I regretted that were very embarrassing, and although asking what day Christmas was might have been embarrassing in the moment, the laughter that the other students and teacher brought probably lightened the embarrasment

Even though this moment was embarrassing for you, to others it is humorous and it gives this post a more lighthearted tone than some of the others I have read. As I read this paper I admittedly thought “wow, that’s a dumb question”, but in all honesty I know I have been in that situation many times before so I have no reason to judge. I really like how you kept the suspense throughout your story by delaying the revealing of your question, it made me want to continue reading and really added another dimension to the story. While the situation is unfortunate, your reflection on that moment in this post was well written and gave me a good laugh.

Everyone has had those same days. Days where you just can’t seem to think of the right things no matter how small the matter may be. Embarrassment is something everyone has to deal with and the ability to laugh it off even when it’s paired with regret isn’t always easy. You did a great job of explaining what was going on that led up to a simple question being asked. Laughing is just a natural response to it and I’m glad you can look back on it with the understanding that it wasn’t the end of the world, just a funny mishap.
