The Bird’s Nest

Approximately 8 years ago, when I was younger, naive boy, I would go adventures in my yard and in the quiet woods around my home. I loved being outside and enjoyed exploring new areas and nature.
I was in my backyard in Lisbon falls, on a quiet road, on a nice day. On this day, on the left side of my house, I found a bird”s nest sitting in a crab apple tree. I heard a faint bird chirping noise coming from above, in the tree. I decided to take a closer look and from ground level, I noticed a small bird’s nest sitting peacefully in crab apple tree.
As a young boy, I was inquisitive, so I decided to take a look. I thought to myself whether or not I should touch the nest or leave it alone. I decided to climb the tree, so I started to climb the branches of the crab apple tree to get a better view.
When I reached the area where the nest was located, I noticed the nest nestled on a cozy branch approximately 10 feet up. I noted that there were several young baby birds that had been sitting in the nest by themselves. At that moment, I thought to myself that would take the nest for my self and keep the birds as pets. I soon realized that taking the nest and the baby birds was not a good idea.
When I lifted my arm outwards, towards the nest, I slipped slightly and knocked the nest out of the tree. The baby birds began to fall toward the ground and I started to panic. The baby birds came to rest on the ground and most of them were moving. As I looked over the baby birds, I noticed that one was not moving and had died from the fall. I was heartbroken and sad from what had happened.
My neighbor Keith had noticed that the birds’ nest was on the ground and had told me that once the birds are disturbed by an outside presence, it disrupts the relationship between the baby birds and their mother.
The bird’s nest was sitting on the ground for a while when I realized that what had done, by bothering the nest was a mistake. I knew I was wrong and at that moment in my life, decided to treat nature with respect. To this day, I am still inquisitive and try to think first before disturbing anything that may cause harm.

Interesting story honestly. To me, this paints a bigger picture for a lot of people to just think about what you do before you do it. A lot of the time you aren’t sure about the circumstances of something and you were able to address this with a past event in your life. You showed how you thought to have pet bird was a good idea but you didn’t know the gravity of the situation and then also disturbing the nest wasn’t a good idea but you didn’t know. What I’m trying to say is it’s a good lesson for people who think they understand a situation but you never truly understand.
This is a story that can teach an important lesson– to always be aware of the consequences from your actions. Even when it isn’t purposeful. You had this in mind when contemplating touching the nest, but deciding not to. Though it is easy for one simple thing to trigger a chain of events, which was your case. But you can look back on this and apply it to your life now, as you are older.
