I was with some buddies of mine on a Saturday night this winter with nothing to do. One friend suggested we go get his mothers car which is a V8 with RWD to bring it up to the high school to drift. It was snowing out, leaving an icy layer above the pavement providing perfect drifting grounds. It was around 11:30 p.m by the time we got the car. First we just drove it around town testing the limits of the car to see what we were dealing with. Once about a half an hour went by we thought it was time to shine so we brought it t the high school.
The high school parking lot, perfect for drifting. A large open area with multiple curves outside of it. The snow turned into almost freezing rain making the roads even more dangerous, AWESOME! It was my turn first since I was the one who had my license the longest. I hop into the driver’s seat, shift it to drive and take off into the parking lot. This amount of power output throughout only two wheels was an absolute traction delete. I whipped into the very first open area where all the students park.
Immediately hit it off with a few donuts and drifts. It did burnouts way too easy. Once I was satisfied with my drifts my other friend asked if he could give it a try, and I thought why not, eh? Well, soon after I realized why not.
He gets into the driver’s seat and I get in the back with the owner of the car in the passenger seat. He shifts it into drive and starts moving forward. Little did we know that shift would ruin our night. The driver just gets going, within a minute we drifted ourselves right into a snowbank! We hit the bank fast enough to go deep into the snow. When we tried to get out no push or throttle was powerful enough. We began digging, but there was a lot of snow, no way we would be able to dig it out without getting frostbite.
Maybe a half and hour has gone by and we have called everyone we could think of to come and help us. We were worried a cop was going to come soon and patrol the school so we needed someone to come quick to minimize the trouble we would get in. Finally after the 5th time we called, my friends pick up and say they will come get us. Phew, thank you god. As we are waiting for our friends we see a car coming, it pulls into the school, oh no!
Of course a cop would come to the school now—. The worse of luck, we finally got our friends to come pull us out, but a cop comes just before. The cop steps out and understood we were just having fun, but wished we were more safe and knowingly of the dangers of the road in this weather. We understand his concerns and thank him for only giving us a warning. He gave us back our ID’s that we gave him before and tells us to hopefully get a friend to come pull us out and to drive safe. His next move surprised us all.
Pulling away from us the cop drifts a whole donut in the open and drifts out of the school parking lot. My friends and I were shocked and amazed! That was the best thing that happened to me in a while. Shortly after, my friends arrive to the rescue! By the time they got there is was 1:30 a.m, not many people would leave during a snowstorm to go pull you out at that sort of time. It took true friends to rescue us so we wouldn’t have to sleep in a cold car all night and hope we get pulled out as soon as possible. They came to help cause they cared.
A time I once went to help a friend also took place around 1:30 a.m. My friend just landed at the airport and his ride home ditched him. I was lying in bed ready to fall asleep when I get a call from him saying he had no other option and absolutely needed a ride home. I put some clothes on and hopped in the car to save him. I understood he needed me so I took action. When I got there he was grateful and thanked me calling me a hero. After helping him I felt as if I was in the shoes of my friends who helped me that one time. It felt good to go out of the way to save someone’s night from being a disaster. It just reminds me of the power humans have to make someones week or even month if we want to. Just with our words or little actions we can spread positivity and help others making friends with everyone and this world a better place.

Great story! Very well described, I could picture it perfectly in my head.. great use of imagery. Very lucky to get off with just a warning and very nice of you to go out of your way to pick up a friend when they were in need your’e such a great friend!
I would have to agree with you on the cop just drifting out of the parking lot, that would have made my day so much better. Going to pick someone up I can understand in a different way. I remember just driving around Auburn with my mom and seeing my Uncle on the side of the road at times almost getting hit before we were able to stop to get him.
I really like how you ploted this, gave us readers very good detail about what was going on and how the situation could have escalated. I can relate to this very much and you made it very clear and able for the reader to understand your situation, good job Adam!!!
This story is pretty good. I think the best part is definitely when the cop did the donut. I wish I could have been there to see it but it sounds like you might have to teach your friend a few things about drifting! This story is extremely relatable because I have definitely gone drifting at the school myself quite a few times. One time when I was driving around during a storm I got my car stuck and had to call a friend to get me out of a snow drift so I can relate to being extremely grateful when they show up to lend a helping hand. Your writing is good and you have things broken down into paragraphs. Great story.
