A friend in Need is a Friend Indeed

The saying “A friend in need is a friend indeed” is a very true statement. Sometimes it can be hard to find the true friends you can count on for anything. Luckily, I have a few friends like that. People I know I can trust and they are only a phone call away if I ever needed them for anything. This goes both ways as I am always there for them too if they need me for anything. There are a lot of different times I have helped a friend or they have helped me, but specifically last year was a big one. My friend went through probably one of the absolute worst times in her life, a break up. They had been together for three and a half years, they were high school sweethearts and went to prom all four years together as he was two years older than her. I’ll never forget the day her freshman year when she was at a school football game with her friends and he was there with his friends and they happened to meet. They exchanged phone numbers and talked all night. I remember when she called me up and told me she really liked him and thought this was the right one for her. I told her to go for it and she did. Not long after he asked her out and they started dating and it went uphill from there. They were super close and did everything together. He was always at her house and her family adored and loved him. After he graduated high school two years later he moved into his own apartment and she was only 17 and still in high school. She moved in with him at 17. They were true high school sweethearts. Then she graduated high school and everything was still at a high point going really well. A year ago from May everything changed, things went downhill and it resulted in a break up after 3 and a half years together! It was a very rough time for her and she would call me every night on the phone balling, even though she was the one who left it was still really hard after being together for that long and they were each others first love. It was hard for me because I understood what she was going through and knew what she felt like, even though I never personally had been through this. Me being the friend I am to her knew I had to be there for her and help her in any way I could. We would constantly be on the phone just talking and I would reassure her that things would be okay. I would surprise her and bring her stuff either at work or her house. I did everything I could to be a good supporting friend because I would want someone to be there for me too. We would go out and do things and hangout to distract her mind from all of it. It took a while to heal from the pain but she did. She found someone new and they started dating. She loved him, but it wasn’t the same. He was very good to her, but she couldn’t imagine spending her life with him, a couple months later she had texted her ex, not intending for him to see it, but just to let it all out and help her feel better. A couple months went by and he actually answered her back after having no contact for months. She was so scared to read it, she called me freaking out and made me read it to her. He actually missed her and thought she didn’t care about him anymore and moved on and that was not the case at all! He wanted to meet up and talk in person, she was so nervous and didn’t know what to do and I helped her put things into perspective and figure out what to do. She went that same night to go see him and it went so well. It felt right. The very next day they both broke up with their significant other and got back together. They were broken up for a year before they got back together when she was 19, but getting back together was the best thing they could have done for their relationship. The break was very good for their relationship because it made them both realize how much they really missed each other and how they could not see themselves with anyone else. They also both realized what they needed to fix and changed and now she is 20 and they are still together and their relationship is stronger than it ever was. They bought their own apartment and everything is great. I go over a lot and hangout and I can definitely tell that things are going a lot better and they are happy and really meant for each other and really can’t live without each other and the love of each others’ life. They say your first love is your true love, and I believe this to be true. I still help her out with everything in life and on the other hand, she helps me as when I was going through something rough I know she was always just a phone call away. There were nights I would be so stressed that she would come over to my house or work and bring me a snack and we would just hangout and talk to make me feel better and distract things off my mind. There were times she would help me through situations going on at work or school or anything at all. Overall, She is an amazing friend and is one of my closest friends and I know I can always count on her and she can always count on me and we always have each others back!

Wow! She sounds like a great friend(and she is because I know her too). I have gone through something similar and my friends helped me get through it. It is always good to have a friend that will have your back and you will have theirs. That is because when you help and support them, they should help and support you back.I’m glad to be closer with my friends than I was before because I know that they will have my back at any time. This piece of writing was very visual and descriptive, which made it easier to understand and “see” what the problem was.

This is such a well written story! I can’t believe they got back together, they sound perfect together. I hope everyone in life get something like that because everyone deserves happiness just like your friend!

Awe, that is so sweet! Even though I know already how great of a person you are already Mikayla, from our morning study hall rants, this just solidifies my thoughts on what a wonderful and supportive friend you can be. You can honestly meet anyone and put a smile on their face just from your patience and understanding nature. You are such a supportive and uplifting person, and she is one lucky person to have you as a friend who sticks by her side through hard times.
