Throughout middle school I wasn’t ever very driven with anything in school or sports. As a freshman I learned very fast it was nothing like middle school. I was always pretty good at lacrosse through youth and middle school lacrosse. Always looking up to my older brother that was a starting varsity goalie beating out a sophomore his freshman year. He was always the driven older brother that had good grades and was a great athlete. I learned very quick my freshman year that high school lacrosse was not just a walk in the park. I had an very inspirational older brother, an amazing middle school coach, and a good travel program. I always had a dream from when I first started playing lacrosse that I wanted to play in college. From my Point of View I never thought I would get a chance to be that good at it. In 7th grade I had a really good lacrosse coach that believed in me and saw something in me. I was starting on a very good 8th grader team. This was an eye opening experience to me not realizing that i actually was that good to be playing with them. This completely changed my attitude about lacrosse. It made my interest in it grow in the sport and make me want to put in more work outside of just practices everyday. My older brother was always good at lacrosse through middle school and high school and now college. He has always been a big role model to me and someone I try to be like everyday. He would always be pushing me to get outside and play wall ball or shoot. He always said the repetition makes you better. I was fortunate enough to play one lacrosse season with him my freshman year. He showed me how you act and carry yourself as a captain and a leader in his senior year. He always made me want to work harder everyday in practice . He wasn’t the loudest leader but he was the hardest worker day in and day out. I am going to take everything I learned from him that year including his work ethic and apply it to my senior year. Going into my Freshman year I tried out for a travel lacrosse team. It was the same team my older brother had played for for the past two summers. I not being as him didn’t make the team. After Sophomore year I tried out for another travel team also out of Portland called the Maine Mussels. I made the team for that summer and have been playing with them ever since then. I have a very good relationship with the owner and have paved a nice path for my younger brother. Playing every summer made me realize the talent around me was getting better and better and that I needed to pick it up. This made me want to learn more about lacrosse and made me start watching more on tv and learning more about it so I could come back the next summer and be better than the other kids. I have had some very inspirational role models in my life that have lit the sport of lacrosse in me. I am trying everyday to become a better lacrosse player and a coach. I want to give back to the sport that has already given me so much. I helped coach the rec middle school lacrosse team last year and have an even bigger role in the team this year.

I have an older brother too and he was and still is the same way. I try to be better than him but I never will be. He gives back by reffing.
Having an older sibling is such a blessing a curse in the sense that they are people that you can look up to especially in sports. I know when I was younger I wanted to be just like my older brother and be as good as him in hockey and soccer.. but never was.
Im glad that you found a passion in lacrosse. It is amazing that you have someone so close to you to be able to seek help from and look up to. If you keep working at it and practicing like you do now, you will show so much improvement. I hope all goes well and you continue doing what you love as you continue on with your journey.
Being the only girl in a family I always try to out work my brothers, siblings are a blessing they make you work harder than you ever thought you could. Learning about your journey though high school shows how much you care about the sport and how bad you really want it.
I really like how you emphasized the relationship you have with your brother when describing your passion about lacrosse. It seems you two really enjoy it, and only make each other better. I really enjoyed reading this because I related to you when you talked about your travel teams. I had two travel teams that I played for, one for basketball and softball. Each of these teams had a much higher caliber and made me a better athlete today. Playing in that environment was definitely tough, but it made a better player physically and mentally.
Good job writing this, you made plenty of good points in the writing. I wish I was still able to play lacrosse, reading this made me think about when I played and how much I loved it. Keep up the good work man and play as long as you can. It really sucks one day when you realize that your done playing a sport that you love. But keep up the good work man.
Awesome story. I relate to this story a lot when it comes to field hockey. I have cheered since kindergarten for football and competition, football cheer started to get boring so I decided to try something new make new friends just go out and try and be apart of something different. I am sure glad I did that, they bond and fire built with it will never dull, yes it may be our senior year and sports are coming to the end for us but it’s not for every other younger player looking up to us as we are their idols and they have big shoes to fill.
This was an excellent post. I’m glad to hear that your older brother motivated you to become a better lacrosse player, also that he was a good role model to you. I cannot wait to see what you can accomplish at Saint Joes. That should be extra motivation to continue to train hard to get better.
