Wackest Family

My family is probably one of the wackest, we don’t do thanksgiving like normal families. My mom doesn’t slave over a turkey all day and she doesn’t even think about cooking all the veggies or the gravy basically anything that should be cooked for Thanksgiving. About the most “normal” thing my family does around Thanksgiving is watch the football games. My family would much rather have a Thanksgiving supper like cooking burgers, making french fries, order out Chinese (only place open on Thanksgiving) it’s a weird tradition my family has for sure.

The first year we did this was my sophomore year, my mother was sick and tired of making turkeys and doing all that jazz. She decided she wanted Thanksgiving to be different from everyone else. She decided to cook french fries over the fryer and cook burgers, something very bizarre for thanksgiving. Sure enough though we got stuffed and watched football like any other family and getting ready for black friday shopping for later in the night making plans. The next year the tradition was going to continue.

Thanksgiving for my junior year my mom head decided on cooking chicken alfredo with homemade alfredo sauce. This tradition was something still new to me, I couldn’t really believe we were having chicken alfredo on Thanksgiving, going to see family and others they all had made turkey, pies and etc and having my family doing something different was very interesting and weird we did a second year in a row. Once we did this the second time we knew this had to be a new family tradition we do every year. That is one of the different things my family does during the holidays.

Another holiday tradition my family does around christmas time is cooking Pizzas every year. My mother again did not want to do the same thing every family does and go off the beaten path. The first year we did this tradition was my eighth grade year. My mum wanted to do something quick and easy. After a couple of years it went from my mum making the pizzas to us building our own with all kinds of toppings we wanted. To end the night Step Dad will make eggnog milk shakes and we will all sit down and watch the Polar Express. My family does many things untraditional to others.

Another tradition we have that we might share with most families is the Super Bowl is a literally holiday in my household especially if the Patriots are in it. I honestly think the day of the Super Bowl I see more food then I do on thanksgiving, my Mum will make hot wings, chilli, nachos, and whatever you can think of that goes with superbowl food is made. We often invite friends and family to celebrate the big game. The thing is like I said earlier if the Patriots are in the superbowl the parties seem to be one hundred times bigger. The Superbowl for my family is sometimes bigger than Christmas for us. Sometimes the yelling and all the commotion and all of the yelling I feel like my house is going to fall down. Football in our household can be more personal than politics.

Football in my house is a big deal, when a game is on from  Thursday to Monday night we are watching a game or playing a game. You can always catch us watching football we all watch the NFL draft which almost no families exactly care about, we try to keep up with high school football and watch Blitz 8 on the news every friday night to keep up with how the high school teams do. Saturdays it’s all college football we are watching all day from the first game we can watch to the last. Sunday it is all Patriots we won’t even miss a commercial for the game that’s how glued we are to the T.V. On monday we will watch the last game to keep up with the NFL stats.

My family does thing different from the rest we like to be different and the black sheep. We love the game of football and we can talk about it for hours. We also like to break traditions that some families have set for generations like what to cook for certain holidays etc. We celebrate the Super Bowl like it is a national holiday. What can I say my family is whack and it’s perfectly fine.
