Hello fellow classmates. We have finally made it to the end of our high school years, and another major point in our life. 4 years ago, we entered high school nervous and anxious, waiting to see what we will make of ourselves. And now, 4 years later, we have never been more excited to leave this place. We have all worked hard these past years, trying to complete every assignment, even though most of them were passed in at the last minute. It’s highly likely that we’ve all done this at one point or another and many of us can relate to this, some of us more than others. And for some of us, we still are. This is called procrastination, which is a bad habit to get into, and a hard one to get out of.
It has taken me awhile to realize it, but it’s actually not the best thing to do. Thanks to the large amounts of work supplied to us in every class, I slowly started to understand that waiting to do it all at the last second isn’t super smart. And when I say “slowly”, I mean up until the second semester of senior year slow. Sometimes, this would lead to consequences, such as summer school, which I had to go through twice. I wasn’t there all summer, but the time I was wasn’t fun, sitting in a classroom with other students like me, sweating in the heat like a pig and waiting for the day to be over. Summer school is not the only punishment given that was given because of my procrastinating, but having to retake a class as well, which means having to redo the same work, which is just as horrible. Or, if you somehow manage to not go to summer school or retake a class, you stress yourself out and get just about no sleep trying to complete everything. The point of this is to explain why absolutely no one should procrastinate. There are only negative effects and will only make you miserable the entire time you do so. Being smart with how you handle your work is important, especially now more than ever. Missed opportunities and disappointment will be the only things gained. And nobody wants that.
Some opportunities give us access to great things, and help our future. An opportunity like this that I had was with LRTC. Sometime during my sophomore year, I became interested in becoming involved with law enforcement. Lucky for me, LRTC tours and previews were coming up, and I was able to get a look at the law enforcement program that was there. Everything I saw there was amazing, and everything I was told made me want to be in that class. So when it came time to apply, I sent my information in immediately. A few months later, I got a letter saying I was accepted in, and I was excited for the next year.
When summer went by and our junior year started, I was excited for my new class. The first day was quiet, but as the year went by, our class got to know each other, and became close friends. We learned to cooperate with each other, and learned about ourselves together. As that year passed and our senior year came, my interest in law enforcement started to drop, but I continued with the class. Now that we were all familiar with one another, that first day back wasn’t as quiet. We started to grow closer together as the year ran by. The more the class went on, the less enthusiasm I had for it, but I didn’t want to leave it.
Taking this class was and will forever be one of my best and most favorable high school experiences. Through the new friends and many events that we had all went through, this class will be the hardest to leave. Although I no longer have any interest in this kind of career, I will always be thankful that I was able to have this amazing opportunity.
Moments and experiences like this are what should never be missed out on. If you ever get a chance that you’re interested in but aren’t sure about, just go for it. You don’t know what you might miss out on.
