Laughter is the best Medicine

What is laughter? Laughter is a feeling, emotion, or the general idea where an individual may have a sensation of feeling good, pleased, and or may just be an idea to someone. For some happiness may be laughter, for me I can be happy whether I’m laughing or not. Others may not be able to understand, feel, or comprehend the idea of being happy or be able to laugh. What I know as an individual is that I like to make others feel happy. Making others happy is what allows me to cope with certain things, have a bond with the individual, and to be able to understand or get to know the individual because of whether or not I’m able to get the person to laugh. If I’m able to make someone laugh the result will give me a better understanding of how to act around this person or what to say because if even for a second I can make another person laugh or smile just for a certain time, it will make me feel good to know someone else had a positive time in their day.

A time where I could say I made someone feel better about something or when I’ve made someone laugh is when my friend Jillian’s Grandfather passed away for a while things were very hard for her, but I stayed and still continued to be a good friend. The thing about death in a person’s life is that you can’t automatically make everything better, it takes time and the only thing you can do to really help them is to simply be there and just make sure they feel secure, but to also be compassionate in what they are going through. For a while things were hard for her, but I still continued to stay and I would always check up on her and that’s what matters. When I knew she was sad, sure I would care, but I would also, sometimes act if things weren’t any different, I would try and continue being a good friend, being silly, and cracking jokes. Because having a certain normalcy in tough times is what might be best for a person. Just her laughing every time made me feel as if her pain was lessening even if it was a little or temporary, and just continuing to think that made me feel better by being a good friend or a positive source in her life. Whenever I was actually able to make her smile or laugh it made me feel as if I was someone important in her life, it made me feel as if I could make up for some of the emptiness she felt during that time. Sometimes were harder than others, but in the end I still continued to be a good friend until the grief and pain eventually lessened.

When you lose someone they never really go away, but the pain of the thought of them just eventually lessens. In the end to this day it doesn’t continue to phase her as much, but in those times where things are hard again, even if it’s for a short while, I will still continue to be there, and to be that good friend in her life. When a person is laughing it can truly say a lot about them, the way they smile when doing it, the sound the person may produce, the words they may say, and sometimes laughter may even bring tears and there is nothing wrong with that. Sometimes the best thing to do is try and laugh in order to distract the mind from the problems a person may go through. Laughter is something that can truly bring out the best in a person. Sometimes the only way people can cope with things is to try and continue to stay happy, and laugh, to always have a smile on one’s face to be able to continue. If one continues to laugh and be happy it can sometimes ease the pain whether or not a person is faking it. Someone’s laughter can come from a person, place, or a thing.

Generally always being able to be happy, having a smile on my face, or laughing is sometimes what helps me cope with things or to feel better, and sometimes laughing and smiling isn’t enough. For me sometimes it takes a person, or people to help me cope or help if I’m having a bad day, sometimes it’s being home and just being by myself that can help me, laughter and smiling is something that is important in my everyday life. Even when I’m upset or angry about something to this day Jillian is still a great friend in my life, and that feeling of understanding and compassion goes both ways, as I did for her. During hard times she does the same for me no matter how bad I may push someone / her away. Although, sometimes not everything can be fixed with a smile or a laugh, some things are too hard or hurt too much to just be laughed at. But sometimes all a person can do is to continue to persevere through all the hard times. Although, in time things can be fixed, and things will get better, things can’t always stay good, but they also can’t always stay bad either, but along the way laughter, happiness, and just smiling for even a short time can bring the best. The process of pain can sometimes last for a short time, sometimes it can last a long time. The source of pain can always be different, sometimes it’s the same, it’s not always easy to just try and be happy, it’s good to have distractions to help with pain, whether it’s figurative pain or literal pain.

Not everything can be fixed with a smile or a laugh. Although a time in my life where I really needed to be happy because I was down, what I did was that I surrounded myself with positivity and good friends around me to help me continue on and be happy. Positive energy and laughter can be contagious, if the people surrounding one can make the individual happy and can allow for laughter then it can distract the mind to pass time and not stress about certain things, and or just to get one’s mind off of something.

Laughter is important because it can be a sort of cure for some people, it can block all the stress and worries on certain things that pertain to everyday life or just generally block the negativity around someone or the things that are on their mind that can be upsetting.
