A trip back from Mimi’s, ended up resulting in a flat tire.
On June 26, 2018 at 1:06 pm my two friends and I got a flat tire while on our way back home from swimming at my Mimi’s. My Mimi lives on a road where it goes from pavement/tar to dirt. My friend who was driving was going the speed limit, she was going about 7 mph over the speed limit. When we hit the corner to go from pavement to tar we ran over something sharp. We still aren’t sure if it was a rock, glass or a nail etc. We drive down the dirt road a little bit but we notice something seems off. So we pull over to the side of the road to see what was going on. We all get out and check all the tires, the front driver’s side tire was completely popped. My friend had a spare tire in the back of her trunk and some tools that went along with it so we tried to change the tire but it didn’t work out too well. I tried to call my dad and stepdad for help but they weren’t answering. A truck driver in a dump truck sees us on the side of the road so he pulled over to help us. It was kind of really sketchy. It took about 10 minutes for the guy to change the tire. We thank the guy for changing our tire and proceed to driving home. About 3 minutes go by of driving and my friend said that the steering felt a little off again so we pull over, again. The spare tire that we got from the trunk was going flat. I called my dad to see if he was at his shop because his shop was at least 7 minutes away from where we were. My dad answered the phone so I asked him if he could come put air in the tire. So, my dad came to put air in the tire.
The tire that we had was a spare of course so we had to somehow get a new tire. My friends dad works at an auto repair shop in Greene, so we drove from Monmouth to Greene so we could get a new tire. We had to drive below the speed limit the whole way there because there was a certain speed limit you had to go for that specific tire. About 20 minutes go by and we arived at the auto repair shop. We wait about 15 minutes for her dad and the other employees to change the tire.
If I hadn’t called my dad, then we wouldn’t have been able to make it to the auto repair shop. My friend’s dad wasn’t able to leave work and luckily my dad was at his shop about 7 minutes away.

Great read! I have had all too many experiences with flat tires and how much of a pain in the butt they could be. It’s a good thing that man stopped to help you or you could’ve been there a while but at the same time I would be really sketched out too. It’s a good thing there was a group of you so you are safer in numbers. Sorry to hear about not just the one flat but the second flat too. Glad to hear you made it home safe though!
Sounds like an eventful day. Proud of you for trying to change the tire yourself, not a lot of people would even put in the effort. It is hard if you dont know what you’re doing so don’t worry that you couldn’t get it. Luckily i’ve never had a flat tire myself, only really low tire pressure. But one time I was with someone who did get a flat tire on the side of the highway and that was not very fun, we were about 2 hrs away from home so it took us forever to find someone we knew that could come save us. This person I was with did not have a jack so we had someone bring us one, when we went to change the tire we didn’t have the right tire iron so I needed to catch a ride to napa to buy one then loop all the way back around. Once we got the tire changed, the car ended up dying so we needed someone else to stop to jump us! Haha what an eventful day!
Fun times for sure! I rememeber a time when My dad and I were headed to pick up my sister from basektball camp when the engine blew to his jeep wrangles that was fairly new. We were in Portalnd on the highway and had to get towed because you can’t do anything about that on the side of the road. It was annoying because we had to have someone else come out and pick us up and then go get my sister.
