Friends never fail

There are many times that I have helped a friend or a friend has helped me. There are many times that I helped my friends but one that I pretty regularly since I’ve gotten my license is giving my close friends rides, even when I technically wasn’t supposed to. I have never been one to give rides for money because I would rather just do it to be nice rather than do and expect to get something out of it.

There was one time in particular when I was getting ready for school and my phone went off but I thought nothing of it and went on with my morning.  I finished getting ready and had some extra time so I decided to go to Dunkin and while I was in line waiting my phone went off again so i figured it might have been important so I read what the message was. It was one of my close friends at the time and she had missed the bus and was asking for a ride. At this point school started in like fifteen minutes so I knew that I would be late for school so while I waited I debated whether it was worth getting her and getting in trouble or not. I decided I needed to help my friend so I went right there and we definitely were late for school and I definitely heard about it from everyone who knew. I was just happy that we both got to school because if I didn’t go get her then I would have been on time but she wouldn’t have been there at all so in my mind I did the right thing.

I got a talk from my parents when I got home because I was late for school and was driving someone when I legally couldn’t. I am hard headed though so obviously the whole time that they were talking I knew that I was right. I don’t know if they ever truly forgot about it because they still bring it up jokingly but deep down I don’t think they always mean it jokingly. I definitely got this favor returned though because a couple days later my car’s battery died.

Now I don’t know anything about car batteries or cars period so I was in a panic because I had something to do that night. I was asking everyone and no one knew or had the materials to help me. Finally one of my friends came up to me and calmed me down and had a brilliant idea that I don’t know why I didn’t think of she said “why don’t we ask a janitor” so we did and thank goodness between the nurse, the office staff, and the custodian we got someone to help us. Then we had another altercation I didn’t know where the battery was, all I kept saying was maybe it doesn’t have a battery like c’mon kirstin it HAS a battery. It was in the trunk I had to look it up on google to find that out. but I finally got it running again and couldn’t have done it without the help of my friend.

I got another talking to that night after this incident because my parents didn’t understand why I didn’t call them but again in my head they both worked at least a half and hour away so why would I have. On top of not calling them I gave the friend that stayed to help me a ride home because that was her only option. So I didn’t fully learn my lesson the first time but who does right? I know I never do, it takes me at least two to three times to fully learn it. I figured I should use all the resources I have at my fingertips before I call them and by the time I was done I figured I was already gonna be in trouble so might as well bring her home as well. To be totally honest they would have been the last because if rather be at home for the lecture rather than in the middle of the school parking lot.
