It is senior year, Senioritis is in full swing, you haven’t checked your grades until the third quarter gets here and you only have a fourth of the year left. You look at your grades and you almost crap your pants…. your grades are complete and total crap. You want to blame all of your teachers for giving you that dreadful grade, but you cannot. That grade is yours because guess what, you have done absolutely nothing the entire semester.
As a senior that is in this exact position right now I know how this feels. It will require hard work and focus to get all my grades up to an acceptable passing grade, but if anyone works hard enough, including myself, you can become passing.
To all seniors: Please get caught back up, I want to walk with every last one of you at graduation. All you need is hard work and focus.
To all underclassmen: Don’t let yourself fall into this pit of disgusting grades that lots of seniors fall into. It is much easier on yourself to do the work when it is assigned rather than get caught up later, TRUST ME!
To anyone playing sports: There are lots of ineligible people in almost every sport right now, you are not only letting yourself and your family down you are also letting your team down.
To everyone at Oak Hill High School: Focus, dedication, hard work. Most people lack this, everyone needs this. College is coming quicker than you think, even if you are going into the work force or military you are going to need all of these things and high school is the best place to acquire them. I plead with all of you, do your work! If you do not you will fail, if you fail you will not graduate, if you do not graduate you will work at McDonalds, if you work at McDonalds you are going to be miserable and broke, if you are miserable and broke you will live in a crappy house in a crappy neighborhood, if you live in a crappy house in a crappy neighborhood you will get killed in a gang shoot out, don’t get killed in a gang shoot out. Do your work, and be smart about it so you can get a good education and live a successful life

I do have to say that this was a good read. I liked how you started out with seniors, then moved to underclassmen then down the chain. I am happy that I came into school, and was able to work on
over break. I was able to get a lot done. As for the ending paragraph, I found it to be very funny. I don’t work at McDonalds and I don’t want to get shot in a gang shooting.
Great read, and you couldn’t be more right! We’re so close though, almost there!
In your beginning paragraph, I like that you point out how people blame the teacher for bad grades when they are the ones who don’t do the work. It bothers the heck out of me, like they say all these things about a teacher, you ask why they are failing, and they pretty much end up saying they didn’t do half the work. No wonder they’re failing. I also liked the structure of the post, and how you started with seniors, and then the next group, etc. It makes it easy to follow, and allows the person in that specific group to focus on your suggestions.
I like how you talk about what is really happening. It isn’t all the teacher’s fault, although we like to think so, but we have to take responsibility for our own actions. I also like how this is easy to read and it is about something most everyone has an issue with. It was good that you discussed different “age” groups, for seniors, underclassmen, and everyone else. It was just nice seeing someone be in the same boat as I am.
This piece of writing has many good points and strong ideas within it. The style of writing is serious, but humorous at the same time. This attracts the reader further and holds their attention. There are some simple grammar mistakes and questionable word choices, but overall this piece gets the point across to the reader. It is also easy to relate to this essay because I am also a senior trying to overcome the intense struggle of senioritis.
This article has many good points and it is written in a very down-to-Earth way that is not at all pedantic. It is a paper written by a senior in high school for high school students and this is noticeable in the writing. It is a shame that no underclassmen read these because it would be helpful for them.
This is so relevant and relatable to a lot of us right now. I love this piece, and how you describe the stresses of our final year, how to approach them and how to help others avoid being in this position. This piece, is great! I think it is important for us to know that we aren’t alone in this messy situation. It helps gain that last bit of motivation!
So true, more people need to understand that what they do in high school WILL affect the rest of their life. Bad choices and grade now leads to where you end up at college, or not. Where you end up after high school determines what you spend the rest of your life doing; successfully, happy, and smart. Or no job, not money, and not so happy.
This is my life, working my butt off to get caught up and to still maintain a social life. As if being a senior isn’t hard enough, the laziness that attacks us and sucks us in doesn’t help. I like how you went through everyone, seniors, underclassman, sports, and just everyone in general. It was a well rounded, well written article. Good job! 🙂
This got me motivated. Mostly because I don’t want to die in a gang shootout…
I like how you started off directing it towards the seniors but as you continued on, it went down the line to the underclassmen. It’s definitely 110% true. It really doesn’t take much more than focus, hard work and dedication to graduate. Or at least, to pass your classes. My favorite part is the ending because it reminds me of one of those insurance commercials, which grabbed my attention and kept me intrigued. It was a good piece to read (:
I am currently in the same stressful boat as what seems to be a majority of the seniors right now. All of my work has just built up and unfortunately, so has my stress level. If I could go back and do my assignments when they were assigned, I would. Trying to play catch up just is not worth it, and I think you hit the nail on the head with this piece.
I agree with you and that is exactly what I would say to people, only I wouldn’t follow my own advice because I haven’t yet. Everything that you say is 100% true. Maybe this will motivate me a little and if so, thanks man. Great article!
I like how you started off towards the seniors and worked your way down. And I can relate completely to what you have to say because I’m working to get caught up right now and I would not like to die in a gang shoot out so I’m going to get my grades up and walk with you and everyone else at graduation.
I loved how you wrote this! As someone in a senior class, I have gotten to see just how stressed you seniors get. Not going to lie it stresses me out a little too. I really am glad I got to see all of it first hand. Its crazy how much high school really does have an impact on life after. I loved this article!
This is 100% true! Your grades in high school are very important as it will determine what you do in the future. I love how you gave advice to seniors, underclassmen, and people playing sports. Reading this piece is an eye opener to many people and will hopefully motivate others, including myself. Great article! 🙂
The excerpt caught my attention. I like it, you take a riskier approach to your work than others, and it works. It’s down to earth and it appeals to us because it’s not some formal business address to the board. Keep it up mang.
I loved this because I can totally relate ! I am definitely feeling the stress of second semester of being a senior! Also being behind in your school work for your classes is a very stressful things .! I love how each paragraph is kinda directed towards a different group of people, like people that play sports, underclassman , and then you end it with everyone at Oak Hill which I really loved !
Great job! The beginning caught my attention and you made me stick with it. You even added some humor at the end. Every paragraph was different, well ordered, and very well explained. I liked how you put it towards seniors and their point of view and then moved down to lower grade students. That brings out you telling the message to everyone. From the comparisons to the gang shoot out, it put a smile on me while reading the message.
