All Jokes

I don’t care who you are everyone loves a good laugh. I used to say to my friend, that I hadn’t had a good laugh for a while, and we’d vow to soon fix that. You know the laughs where you’re gasping for air, your face becomes beet red, and your core is all tight. I love those laughs that happen from when you and your friends both keep adding things to the story to make it more hilariously unreal. The laughs that happen because you just went “too far”. The contagious laughs that were funnier than the original joke. Or the ones having to do with an inside joke, that’s really not all that funny, but the perfect execution was there. Yeah those. I think the best laughs come in moments when you’re especially not supposed to be laughing. There are so many times I can think of when me and my friends were supposed to be quiet and we see or hear something that gets us going. I could go on and on but it’s about the people you’re laughing with. If you’re with the right people, anything and I mean anything can be funny.

Believe it or not Geometry class was comedy central, and I was the comedian. To my small friend group of course, I bet the other people in that class hated us and I don’t gamble much. Geometry was the class that was either my least or most looked forward to class of the day, there was no in between. Since we had skipped certain math standards usually learned in prior grades, we were lucky to even be in the class as freshmen. This combined with having all of our friends in the class made our chances of learning almost futile. We were either stressed because we didn’t understand the content, well we were always in a constant state of confusion, or we would be chuckling in the back of the class. Since we all were in the same boat, with having trouble understanding the material, we simply passed the time we were supposed to be doing work by laughing.

On occasion it would catch up to us as a test would approach, and we would all have to speed-learn to squeak by just to get a good grade. We didn’t always cause a ruckus, but when it was supposed to be work time, we would get a bit carried away. One of the many times where we were learning about shapes, we had received a question about a rectangle that didn’t make much sense at all, to me anyway. The monstrosity seemed the farthest thing from the shape that I knew and loved, so I asked one of my friends, mind you it was dead silent in the class, “how is this a rectangle?” with the straightest face. This resounding question with no follow up retort made the issue a you-had-to-be-there moment which made my friends fall apart.

Another time where we couldn’t hold in our hysterics was when there was a stink bug flying around the room, that eventually landed on the flag. To our surprise our teacher suddenly grabbed a meter stick and started poking at the beetle to remove it from the classroom. As this was happening, the beetle zoomed through the air banging into lights on the ceiling. All we had to do was look at each other and we burst out laughing, because math was the last thing on our minds. Soon the whole class was laughing at the situation and our teacher’s efforts to capture the tiny creature, which made this class a memorable one. These were the laughs I lived for, which leads me to believe that laughter is a very good reason for friendship. The shared experiences of Geometry class created a bond between us, that seems unbreakable. All I have left to say is that I apologize for the havoc we caused in Geometry class of 2017-18 and a big thank you to all my supporters that got me to where I am today.
