Curly, Long, Golden Hair

Patience is such an important thing when being in a family, especially one with children. I have five younger siblings and I see a lot of acts of people both losing patience and having patience whether it’s a sibling or a parent. It is very easy to lose patience being in a big family. Like when being in a rush and having to wait to use the bathroom. One of the most common times our patience is tested is when we are in a hurry to get somewhere like our grandparents for thanksgiving dinner. We are often running late and it is easy for all of us to get mad at some of the younger siblings who get ready very slowly and won’t focus, for example my little sister Lila. One reason it is important to have patience is because if you don’t, like in the situation I explained, it can quickly ruin everybody’s mood and make wherever we might be going less enjoyable.

There are many examples where I have kept my patience because of all of the practice I have had. One of these examples happened just the other day. My family was in a rush to go buy a Christmas tree before the store closed. My family loves the holiday season and getting a Christmas tree is a big deal for us. We all love to put the bright colorful lights on the tree and the unique homemade ornaments on it as well. Because of this, we were all very eager to quickly get the tree so we can enjoy it for as long as we can during the Christmas season. Just a couple of minutes later my little sister Lila asked me to braid her hair before we left. I agreed to do her hair, and although I do this often, it is still a struggle because of her beautiful, long, curly, golden hair. I start to braid her hair and she starts wiggling around like a little three-year-old girl does. I began to become a little annoyed with her because we were in a rush to get going and she was making it take longer. As I am about to lose my patience and just put her hair in a ponytail so we can leave, I remember that she is my little sister and I am going to miss doing her hair when I leave for college. I don’t want all of my memories of doing her hair to be ones where I get frustrated with her because she’s wiggly. So I asked her to stay as still as she could, and I finished braiding her hair. I always try to remember that she is choosing me to do her hair out of all the other people in the house. She does this because she likes when I do it, she trusts me, and she likes spending time with me. I would never want to ruin the trust she has in me so I always do my best to keep my patience. I would also never want to hurt her feelings because I love her very much and she is my best friend.
