If you have ever thrown a frisbee in your childhood days than I recommend giving disc golf a try. What is disc golf you might ask? Well, It is a recreational sport that essentially combines traditional golf with throwing a frisbee and shooting a basketball. The name of the game is to shoot a frisbee, also known as a disc, aiming for a raised metal basket. This metal basket has chains that are connected to the top, and hang down to an O-ring so the chains can move freely at the bottom. It is designed to absorb the impact of the disc, so the disc will fall into the basket. It is a game that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and genders, and is fairly cheap to play.

Around the 50’s it was used as a way of marketing frisbee brands and wanted to give its consumers a new way to play. There was various versions of playing, and was played with tin lids before frisbees’ time. Disc golfing was formalized in the 1970’s and shares the same objective as ball golf, with the goal being to get the lowest score.

There are many disc golf courses situated across the country, often with beginner, intermediate, and advanced holes. This ensures that people of all skill levels can be challenged and experience the game in different ways. A combination of wooden and open terrain is ideal to vary the difficulty and strategic portion of the game. Strategy is involved when trying to weave the disc around trees and avoid it splashing in nearby waters. You simply cannot just throw the disc and hope for the best. You must plan out which way you want the disc to maneuver, and how far you expect it to soar. Once you have done this you can decide which throw will give the greatest distance, and comply with your strategy. The most common throws are forehand, backhand, and the overhead or “tomahawk” throw. The forehand throw is done by extending the throwing arm behind the shoulder line, and releasing the disc midway, and following through across the body. Throwing a disc backhand is very similar to the way you would a traditional frisbee. Overhead throwing is done by holding the disc similar vertically, and simulates how one would throw an axe at a tree.

Disc golfing also comes with a fair share of benefits. Upper and lower body alike receive a workout when throwing the disc. It also helps to sharpen mental abilities and helps to improve thinking skills. It is a great aerobic exercise that is guaranteed to have you break a sweat. It can be enjoyed for strictly social purposes, or can be a competitive sport. No matter what path you choose, everyone can appreciate its benefits.
