Spicy meat stick: Introducing CBEGIN23

I don’t know C very well, but I feel I’ve got to know him better by writing this blog post. He values the simple things, a delicious Slim Jim while “ripping” is a thing that he enjoys and means a lot to him. He chose to represent himself through the representation of a cherished memory, which I believe influences his character today.

The part of his avatar I’d like to focus on first is this, a red rounded rectangle, surrounded by a black rectangle boundary. I was initially confused by what this meant. But when I asked it was far more simple than I would have guessed, it represented a Slim Jim (The spicy meat stick mentioned in the title). But as I would soon find out, this spicy, savory, little treat meant far more to Cam than a simple snack. I believe it represented simplicity to him, a lack of stress, and a more simple, easier time. Although he didn’t say this explicitly that’s the conclusion I ended upon.

The black border represented a Slim Jim wrapper but also closely resembles a dirt bike tire from the front. The black border goes hand in hand with the brown background. That color is referring to a dirt bike track or trail, C’s favorite place to enjoy his favorite tasty snack. He blended two symbols to represent 2 different things while working perfectly for both, but as he would tell me in classic C fashion, it was unintentional and I was reading too much into it.

C and I’s avatars couldn’t be more different, mine is a bit complicated, with vague symbolism representing my core values while C’s avatar was far simpler and easier to understand. As I look back on it I wish I had made my avatar more similar to C’s, I spent too much time considering complicated symbolism, when I probably could have better represented myself, perhaps even more specifically through a simplistic storytelling method as C had used.
