GLetourneau is a former teammate, classmate and is a longtime good friend. His avatar consisted of a pine tree in the center and outdoor work tools crossed behind them. The background is a blue ocean. He told me that his theme wasn’t completely about him, but was mostly about the state of Maine.
The part of his avatar that grabs my attention the most is the pine tree with the tools behind it. He said that when he was making his avatar he thought of different aspects of it, so he included the Maine state tree to represent the “Importance of wildlife in Maine”. The tools behind the tree symbolized a couple things; the farming and the logging industry. He focused on that “because it is a big part of Maine culture”. The blue background of his avatar, the color of water, was meant to show the “Fishing industry that is essential and big in Maine”.
Both GLetourneau and I have similar ideas when it comes to our avatars because of the video we watched about flags. As a result, we both decided to redesign the Maine state flag. The similarities we have between our avatars would be that we both try to represent the big fishing industry. We both show this in our avatars. In my avatar, I use a lobster claw to represent this and he uses a blue background that can be interpreted as a body of water such as an ocean. Another similarity would be that we both try to represent things native to Maine. He does this by putting a pine tree (the Maine state tree) in the center of his flag, while I use the claw of a lobster (which is what Maine is known for).
Some of the differences between GLetourneau’s avatar and mine is that he incorporates more colors into his than mine. I only used three patriotic colors (red, white and blue) while he used more than I did to show what he was representing. Another difference is that he decided to incorporate a different aspect of Maine than I did which was farming. He accomplished this with the tools behind the tree which were the ax and the shovel. Despite differences between our avatars, we both included similar aspects of Maine but through different ways.
