A digital footprint is a newer term in society. Before social media was created, digital footprint wasn’t a word that is in use frequently. The digital footprint was never an issue or concern to anyone. But now, for a lot of people, it’s always in the back of their minds. Now that social media has been an important part of the modern world. It’s something you need to be careful about. You always have to be cautious about what you text and post. Due to this. It could change people’s views of you, like friends and even family. Anything you do on the internet like texting and posting can create a digital footprint. People, of all ages, post, email, tweet, and snap every day, creating a digital footprint. Social media has changed the way we live entirely, and that’s why having a clean digital footprint is important People revolve a huge part of their lives around social media. Everything you do is never gone on the internet, it all stays in some way, shape, or form.

When you turn on the tv to the news or go online, all the time you see are people getting in trouble, or exposed, by their digital footprint. There have been many examples of this. A great example is about an NFL coach named John Gruden having racist emails surface that he wrote years prior. It made it so he lost his credibility and his job. Also, a popular content creator promoted his physique while saying not to take PEDs and that he is natural, recently, emails leaked of him talking to a doctor about his PED usage. This made his fans and supporters lose a lot of respect for him. Because his digital footprint was negative. His fans watched him because of his influence on anti-PED movement. but now that he has been exposed, his fans lost faith and lost trust. Making this content creator lose popularity. In particular, a quarterback with a full-ride scholarship to D1 school to play football, had a video leaked of him singing along with a song, and saying a racial slur, which is a perfect example of a negative digital footprint. This is why having a positive footprint is extremely important Once the video leaked, he lost his scholarship and a great opportunity. Your digital footprint can have such a negative effect, it can ruin your life. Just because you “delete” something on the internet, doesn’t mean it’s gone forever, control your life on social media so you won’t have to worry about your past.
