On The Coast

Interesting and unknown is how I would describe BBoone25s avatar. I thought I knew BBoone25 better than I thought before interviewing him and looking at his avatar. The avatar has a light blue border around the entire thing, only taking up a about a quarter inch of space on the outside. Inside the border is a white background, which at first thought that it was surely just a blank space and didn’t mean anything. In the top left corner of the avatar there was a black circle about the same thickness of the border. This threw me for a loop because I had absolutely no clue what it could have meant. Finally there is a tree in the bottom right corner also about as wide as the border and going halfway up the avatar. I had a pretty good idea of what this was symbolizing.

Some of my guesses where right, although some were very far from right. My guess for the border was that is symbolized the ocean, I wasn’t quite sure what the ocean meant for BBoone25. When asked if the blue symbolized the ocean BBoone25 said, “Cause I’ve been on the ocean my whole life.” I did not know this which led me to want to know more, do you spend your summers on the ocean? Boat? House on the Coast? Yes, in fact, he does spend his summers on the ocean both in a house and on a boat. To eliminate my suspicion that the white didn’t mean anything I had to check. Of course I was wrong, when asked if the background had any meaning he responded, “Soccer ball,” I didn’t even know he played soccer which came as a huge surprise to me. My first thought was why didn’t he pick black for the soccer ball, even thought this wouldn’t fit with the mysterious black circle. Boone 25th responded, “I don’t know, soccer balls have more white than black.” Turns out BBoone25 has been playing soccer for 13 years. To be honest I was completely lost on what the black dot was in the corner, I just had to ask what it meant. It was a fly fishing reel. When asked why it it was included on his avatar he said, “I like fly fishing,” any real fisherman would have to ask why not normal fish. According to BBoone25, it’s too easy, which is very not true, in my opinion. Finally the one I was sure of, the tree. I was right in my guess that it symbolized nature. Nature seems to be an important part of everyone’s life so I like to see it included on his avatar.

I believe that BBoons25s and my processes for making our avatars were very similar. We both found things that were important to us and figured out symbols or colors that were associated with them. If the symbols were simple and fitting they went of the avatar, if they weren’t they were made into colors.

It was very exciting to learn thing what I did not know about BBoone25. I thought I knew him much better than I think now. I would say my favorite part of his avatar was the tree. I think this because I also included it on my avatar, and I think that others also included it. It seems to be a big part of people’s everyday life and I’m sure others included a tree or nature in their avatar.
