Simplicity is really the key factor that makes texting a useful form of communication . When a phone call would not be needed it can be simpler for a text to be sent. It can also be easier to plan group activities with large groups in a message thread, this way there is no interrupting and talking over others. You can show one or more people want you are doing at once. Another reason why texting is good is it is easier to get back to someone, it is a lot different than missing a phone call. A text message will be sitting on the screen when the user comes back to their phone and they are more likely to be able to respond. While phone calls are often used for business, from experience, I have texted my manager for any questions or issues I might have, along with coworkers to fill others in. I have used more texting in work life then I have phone calls. Although, this can be different based on how different jobs or companies communicate.

Phone calls, however, are much preferred in situations where a text would not be appropriate. Calls also are typically used for business needs and time sensitive needs. Usually on business calls it is because a solution needs to be found as soon as possible. When scheduled correctly group calls can be effective at getting information to large groups as long as there is a way to manage interrupting or talking over someone else. Phone calls are often used for scheduling important things like appointments. While a lot of things like appointments are going online, phone calls are here to stay. Since phone calls are widely used it is also an important skill to learn to talk over the phone. There seems to be a fear of talking over the phone that needs to be overcome, so that you can do certain things that phone calls are required for. Another thing phone calls are useful for are troubleshooting, whether you are calling your bank or network provider, you need to discuss the problem in order to get the solution, situations like these are hard to accomplish over text.
The use of texting and calls is up to personal preference. Both texting and calls will have their use from conversations with friends or calling your boss. All things considered, If the choice arises know the advantages and disadvantages and choose the right options that fits along with these and with the situation. The use of texting or a phone call will boil down to what type of situation is it and what is appropriate.
