Most of the time the main reason people choose to text rather than call is its way more convenient. It takes a few seconds and boom your text is sent and there isn’t an instant rush to respond like calling. Most of the time when someone is calling you or you’re calling someone it’s important if you need a response quicker. If I’m in the grocery store and I don’t remember what my mom had told me to buy I’d call her, there is a higher chance that she answers right away rather than waiting because no one has time or wants to sit in a grocery store for hours on end. Most of the younger generation texts rather than calls and most of the older generations would rather call than text because they grew up with calling rather than texting. My generation grew up while texting is such a big thing that we don’t see a problem with it. If we want to hang out with friends well send a quick text and what makes it quick is we always have our phones on us so when our phones buzz or vibrate its instinct at this point to see what the text was.
It isn’t professional to text, the right way is always to call. If it’s my personal life I and most other people will text because it’s faster and more convenient, but when it comes to the workplace or professional jobs the better way is to call. The main reason it doesn’t matter if I call or text in my personal life is because everyone I’m talking to is close people to me. The only time I call someone in my personal life is when I need to ask or tell them something right then and there, or if I’m late to a function or meeting up with friends. One big reason calling is better is because its a lot harder to understand tone while texting, if you are on the phone it feels like you are in person talking to someone rather than texting. A lot of people let their anxiety get in their way so they’ll text their boss or when they are being interviewed and afterward they text the person and not call, and some people don’t get the job because it doesn’t show good values.
As I approach adulthood calling has become more relevant, for many different reasons, the majority of your bosses will call you for something, and if you’re setting up an interview you can them. Texting is rarely a thought. So as I approach a real professional job my bosses will call me if people call out or if they need me to work they will call because it’ll cause me to answer quicker. Although it seems calling will become more prevalent in my adult life with how big texting is maybe as I approach my adulthood calling will be rare and everyone will text even in a professional workplace.
Texting has its advantages and its disadvantages, and its all based off preference, some people prefer to call due to that’s what they are used to but my generation prefers to text for other reasons, because it is faster and more convenient, and not only that but it has been way more normalized than calling, which has caused me to not like calling because I’m not used to it. The feeling of talking on the phone and you can’t see them but you can hear their voice weirds me out, obviously facetime is a thing but good luck trying to get your grandparents to know how to work it, they’d be better off texting.
