Age = Speed

Calling or texting, this is one of the funniest arguments that has ever happened. It really only boils down to how old you are. If you are young you like to text, if you are old then you like to call because typing takes too long. There are two different sides to this argument and they both have their own groups of people. Some people’s parents that can be older will prefer to call then type out what they have to say. If there are some siblings or friends, those people who have a social media platform and can type quickly.

Growing up in school there were many things I would go home to tell my father that I did. Like how I would have a typing class in fourth grade. Or how we did coding with computers around the same time, there was one thing my father would always say to me, “Back in my time we had typewriters if we were lucky to have the money for them.” This would always procure me to say “wow you are old.” Even though my father was about 45 at that time. Over the years my father would always ask me or my sister for help with his phone or computer. When we would help him, watching this man type was like watching an old lady cross the street with a cane; I mean seriously it was so slow. It took him about a minute to type out one sentence on a google search engine. Growing up made me laugh. There were times that he would criticize me for making fun of him and we would all laugh. and on the other hand, as a teenager in the 21st century, we can type fast.

For the people who are under the age of 29, there are many things you like to do on your phone. Whether it’s scrolling tiktok, making instagram posts; This handheld device is something you have had for almost your entire life ever since being a teen. This means you have grown up around the small keyboard on your handheld device so you know how to type on it quickly and efficiently. Typing isn’t a thing that can be mastered instantly either. There is the use of a.i in typing algorithms now. This use of a.i will interpret the way you type and automatically correct some of the grammar and spelling mistakes that you can fat finger on those small phone keyboards. This makes typing even faster for the people that can understand the way that it works and learns the way that you type, learning how the ai can interpret what you are trying to type, what keystrokes you are using, where your fingers land on the screen, and how close to the button your fingers are.  On the other hand you have the older people who would probably prefer to type with one finger letter by letter to make sure they get it right and making sure that there are no grammatical errors even though the phone can fix that on it’s own making you feel confidant in the way that you are typing.

In the end there is really only an age threshold in society today that interprets whether you want to type or call. If you look at my father who is later in his years, he always tells me to call rather than send him a text, on top of that it takes him five minutes to type out two sentences. Whereas the younger group will be able to type out those same two sentences in a matter of seconds.
