A Year Before (Recap)

Thomas softball reached the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) postseason tournament for the sixth consecutive season. Their head coach Terry Parlin, was very impressed with his team. The Terriers finished the year going 15-16-1, while compiling a 7-6-1 conference record.

As usual the team started by taking themselves down to Florida for an annual tournament. The Terriers were successful and went back up to Maine with victories over Hamline (4-3), Rochester Institute of Technology (5-4), and St. Catherine (5-2); winning five straight games, including a two-game sweep of conference foe New England College, and a victory over Castleton. To add to the pile up the Terriers had their bats on fire and beat out University of Maine at Farmington, Lyndon State, and Johnson State in NAC action to secure a fourth-seed in the conference tournament. Thomas defeated UMF in the opening round of the NAC playoffs, but were defeated by Castleton and Lyndon State in the double-elimination games to end their 2014 season.

Junior shortstop Alyssa Eugley was named to the first team. Eugley led Thomas in nearly every offensive category. Her batting average was above normal with a 0.400 (including 100 at bats, 31 runs, 40 hits, seven doubles, six home runs, and eight stolen bases. Eugley’s on base percentage was 0.459, with slugging percentage of 0.710. Defensively she had a 0.905 fielding percentage. This was Eugley’s second season in a row being an all-conference selection.

Senior pitcher Kelesy Crowe was named to the second team at the end of the 214 season for the year-end conference awards. Crowe continued her dominance on the mound after suffering a season-ending injury the following year. The ace of the staff led the team with starting 15 games and winning 9 of the 15 games. She pitched exactly 108.2 innings, while having 72 strikeouts, while only allowing 28 earned runs. Crowe graduates leaving her mark as one of the most prolific starting pitchers in program history.

Coach Parlin is banking on a promising start as there will be a strong returning core, along with conditioned freshmen that will look to make an immediate impact on the diamond.
