Apples
What a marvelous fruit, the apple. We are able to admire it from a near or from a far. Which ever way you look at them, from any angle, they are wonderful. Their rounded shape gives me happiness in my life when all things may seem down. They come in many different sizes, shapes, and colors. The apple was one of the first fruit founded on trees that delivered sweetness and great nutrition for the population of the Earth. The first apple tree was founded near the area of modern Kazakhstan. In ancient Greece they used apples for everyday food for the people of their time. Apples throughout history have been one of the most useful fruit from eating, to baiting animals for our hunting needs. Apples truly are a majestic fruit that deserves nothing less than the greatest amount of respect.
Throughout American history the apple has been with us through thick and thin. When Jamestown was discovered in 1607, apple seeds were brought over from Europe for the enjoyment of the everyday colonist. However, they weren’t the sweet and delicious tasting treat we enjoy today. Instead, they were a bitter tasting food used for cider. Over the years we have grown incredible apples like the Granny Smith, Cortland, and Honeycrisp. In fact, one of our founding fathers Thomas Jefferson enjoyed apples and brought the famous Fuji apple over to our country. The sweetness of the Fuji apple makes me forever grateful to Thomas Jefferson. There are over 2,500 apples found throughout the world which makes a variety of options for making apple crisp, apple turnovers, and other various desserts and dishes that make people like me very jolly.
From the cities of the United States, to the deserts of Africa, the apple has left its mark on this Earth. Around 70 million tons of apples are produced every year worldwide. China and the United States are the world leaders in apple production. Apples are low in sodium, cholesterol, and other things our bodies don’t need in excess. There are about 80 calories per apple which makes them a great snack for anyone! Apples are one of the greatest fruits and are a great choice for anyone’s palate.
