7 pros and cons of military service
[ezcol_1half]Pros of the military, lets start with the Pros to keep the list short I’ve researched 7 pros. Pros:
Free College, if they are scared of paying off college loans their whole life or simply can’t afford college then the military is the way to go. The G.I Bill has a various amount of benefits in itself, such as cash payments and tuition and living expenses to attend university, high school, vocational education as well as one ye of unemployment compensation. Longer Vacations every month you earn 2.5 days of leave which adds up to 30 days of paid vacation a year. Military Discount any general store usually has a military discount and all they have to do is prove your in the service and you can get a discount on just about anything. Free Health Care all medical expenses if eligible for the health care it will be covered and they won’t have to pay out of pocket. Training depending on the job they pick, will determine the kind of training they receive and the training will most likely help them if after they are done serving, plus prior military service isn’t a bad thing to have on an application or resume. Traveling, being able to travel and see other parts of the world are perks of the service, I guarantee that those who join the military will be able to see more of the world than those that don’t or can’t afford it.[/ezcol_1half]
[ezcol_1half_end]Cons of the military. Free Health Care this was a pro as well but the health care they get isn’t the best in the world, and they get it for free so they can’t expect everything to be perfect. Rank this will be one of the most frustrating things to deal with when in the service. Age does not make a difference if someone is younger or older regardless of age if their rank is higher they have authority and you better
listen to them even if they are a complete idiot. You Can’t Quit its not like a regular job, there was a contract signed they can get out when that contract is up. One Team, One Fight, everyone is a team and everyone gets along even if there is hate involved everyone is in it together. You’re Not an Adult Anymore everything they decide to do has to be approved by the military, whether it be getting married, moving, or buying a car. Grooming Standards and Regulations, no facial hair except for a small mustache on their faces that makes them look like a creep. No vulgar or inappropriate clothing, they represent the military so they need to act like it when they aren’t in uniform, especially in the civilian setting. Being Away from Family, When duty calls they leave their families and go serve their country, some deployments can last years and that stinks but its a sacrifice they have to make.[/ezcol_1half_end]

Great article @Ncavallaro15 people will have learned a lot from your post.
Thanks Jake, I know your already in the service but, if you weren’t would this post have helped you decide and is there anything in here you didn’t know already?
I would have learned a lot from this that didn’t already know if I had not enlisted
Lot’s of images which is awesome! It makes it interesting to read! Would you consider the college benefits in the GI Bill a big plus for the military? What would happen if they upped it or took the money away?
The GI Bill is a huge plus chad! If they upped it I think if they upped more people would join the armed forces, if they took it away I think some people would stay and some people would try and get out. It would be a very controversial topic to think about because one of the biggest things about the military is the benefits.
I really love that you included so many pictures to your post, and I think that it was really informative and can be helpful to people possibly thinking about this as a possible career option!
Do you think joining the National Guard while attending college is a smart idea? I have heard that if they need you while you are attending you have to leave immediately with no care to education at all. How often does the National Guard get called into action?
@EWoodcock thank you!! I’m trying my best to help guide my peers into this amazing career choice!
@NRosenshein Most people decide to go to college after they have been deployed, because once you’ve been deployed you can’t get deployed for another 5 years, but as for those in the service and are in college they will resume where they left off, I’d imagine.
This post is very informative. I am curious if you think the pro’s outweigh the cons or vice versa. The military is a long term commitment that you cannot back out of. Also, do you think it is worth it to make a career out of the military or only be invovled for a couple of years?
Being someone who doesn’t know a lot about the military is it true that they make you brush toilets with your tooth brushes? May I suggest talking about how the military is different for males and females maybe about gender equality in the military? great overall article really nice!
@MShedd I think the pro’s outweigh the cons because all of the cons have to do with being mentally tough and if your mentally tough then it will be a breeze.
