Soccer Attire

Soccer attire is simple but can be very important, for example cleats.  Cleats are very important, without cleats players would have no traction!  Especially on a wet field!  The players would be on the ground every time they went to change direction or sprinted from a dead stop.  Not to mention the ball control cleats give the players. Cleats are like thick, grippy, laced socks with studs.  The grip on the cleat helps the ball stay at the players foot, it also makes the ball stay on the players foot longer during their shot so that they can put spin on the ball.  They aren’t necessarily thick but they are slightly thicker than a sock and are made most often with a type of leather.

Soccer players also have to wear shin guards, which if you ask me doesn’t make that much of a difference, but they are required.  If you plan on playing soccer expect to get some beaten up shins even with shin guards!  Socks are also required to cover the players shin guards.  Socks are a necessity because without them the ball slaps the bottom of the players shin and will sting.  Players are also required to wear mouth guards, incase they get hit by the ball or a stray elbow, because no one wants to lose any of their precious teeth!  Last but not least players have to wear their jerseys, most commonly just a tee-shirt with the team logo and a pair of shorts.  The occasional player is also allowed to wear a captains band, but only if the coach chooses them to be a team captain!

I thought jerseys were mainly for a team to know where their team members are within a split second glance like during competitive games among other teams… Also what would you say mouth guards are mainly made out of??

Is there a certain brand of cleats that work better than others? Or is it just a preference for the player?

I really liked the post. It makes me realize how in our modern sports there are many different kinds of attire that we wear and differ with every sport. Cleats are a huge aspect of player performance. Do you think that cleats should continue to be specialized for a specific sport or be universal to every sport?

What makes soccer cleats different from other cleats? Could I wear football cleats to play soccer or would it effect my performance?

The difference between soccer cleats and football cleats is the stud in the front of the cleat and the height of the cleat. The front stud on the bottom of the cleat is not there on a soccer cleat, and the height of the ankle is much higher on a football cleat. Reasons being because the first stub would not allow you to cleanly kick and as a soccer player you want to be able to rotate your ankle for kicking.
