The book “The Iron King” written by Julie Kagawa, is a very interesting book and gives a twist to the usual fairytale stereotypes. It all starts when Meghan starts seeing a mysterious stranger watching her from afar and her best friend, Robbie, starts becoming very protective and starts acting stranger than usual. Meghan knows that something strange was going on, and something big might be coming, she just didn’t know what. To Meghan Chase, she was just an ordinary girl, maybe even a little bit different than other people, but she will discover just how differnt she truly is when destiny comes to finds her. As the suspense builds, Meghan will learn the secrets behind who Robbie really as well as learning that her had has gotten kidnapped and was replaced with a shapeshifting monster pretending to be her brother. Meghan will decide to do whatever it takes to get her brother back from the dangerous world that she never knew she was a part of. On her journey she will have to survive long enough to save her brother even if she has to make some allies along the way that can not be enitely trusted. In the end, she will have to decide which life she chooses, the one she had before she left or this new world that, no matter how much she does not wish to be a part of, is still in her blood.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy, romance, action and adventure. This book reminded me a lot of “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” because of the feel of the fairytale creatures and discovery, however, “The Iron King” version of these creatures is a bit more dark and dangerous which is interesting and I love it. The reason why I love it is because when most people think about surviving in a fairytale land they would think it would be a walk in the park, but this book shows how even the most seemingly harmless creatures can be life threatening if they wanted to be. I loved the way this book brought me along with Meghan while she discovered new things and the difficulties she was having when it came to learning how to survive. In all, I give this book 5 stars out of 5.
