Softball in short terms is a modified form of baseball played on a smaller field with a larger ball. Rather than having a nine inning game, typical softball games only last seven innings. Baseball consists of overhand pitching, where ars softball consists of underarm pitching. Softball evolved during the late nineteenth century from a form of indoor baseball.
To me softball can be a sport I love and hate in all the same day. I hate softball practices, they are very boring, it is much more enjoyable to have a basketball practice. Softball also tends to be more of a laid back sport, and if you are told to run during a practice, it’s not fun. Although I do love this game, when I got emailed by the Thomas College softball coach to play, I was very unsure. At the time of this email, I was a junior and I had a hurt shoulder. It wasn’t until this past winter, that I was able to have surgery in order to “fix” the problem.
It is now my senior softball season, and so far this is the best season I have had. I may not have the best batting average, but I have been able to get on base in away way, and by that I mean I have been walked, I have been hit by the pitch, I have struck out and then been safe on first,, I have hit a single, a double, a triple and lastly, I have hit a home run. I have fielded the play cleaning with every play in right field and I have made no errors on the field (although I have made one base running error and got caught stealing second, in my opinion and everyone else’s, I slid under the tag). Overall this season has been great, my team started off rough with a few key losses, but we are now six and three.
However, my outlook on playing college ball keeps going further and further away. My shoulder has still bothering me, and although I love the sport, I do not love it enough to continue to feel this pain. For people who have a love for the game more than I do, that would be easy for them, but overall I would like to pay attention to college when I am in college and not have to worry about where my game will be. For those who have the drive to be able to play all through out high school and have pushed themselves enough to play in college, I am truly proud of you and it’s truly awesome, but for myself, I’ll stick with a few pick up games here and there, once I am living the college life.

This is overall a great article and as a sports player I do agree that practices are not a fan favorite. As for your injury, you have a special kind of strength for continuing your season the way you have. I think maybe if you take time off and let your shoulder actually heal and play the pick up games you mentioned that maybe later on, you realize you would like to try playing softball in college. Have you been doing exercises for your shoulder so it becomes used to the stress?
I completely agree with this article! Although I play baseball these sports are identical except for the size or color of the ball and the way in which it is thrown. Practice is very tedious and sometimes not a fun experience but it makes it so you can crush the ball like Iris does! I wish you best of luck with the shoulder! You are a great softball player!
